The technique demonstrated in this video is easy , fast and very effective in drawing stonework that looks real at whatever distance it is from the viewer.
Don't let the challenge of drawing stonework stop you drawing castles and other subjects where bold stonework is a key part of the scene. And if you want to practise with this castle, you'll find the reference photo on the channel Community Page.

See previous message above. Actually it’s from 1928, the M.C Esher picture. If you can’t find it, I can send it to you. Thank you

Stephen, Can you do a video on 3-point perspective where the VPs are off the page as in the example of M.C. E hers 1926 wood cut of the Tower of Babel? Only the line drawing, not all the extras in the picture. I’ve tried this four times and getting nowhere. Your videos are helping me immensely! Thank you.

This video feels personally directed at me, specifically. You have no idea how much of my life I've wasted getting bogged down trying (and failing) to draw stonework/bricks.... I never quite seem to land on the right side of that line between too much detail and not enough.

@@stephentraversart look up on north Wales castles. my favourite are Beaumaris, Conwy, Caernarfon and Harlech castles. There are mountains all around them!! There are so many scenes to pick from. Alnwick or Bamburgh castles! Have a look, and have ago. You won't be disappointed, I've drawn and painted them all!

Stephen - another great video. Thank you. I know these vids take a lot of time, thought, and effort. You mentioned something in this video that I think would benefit a lot of artists and one that I'm curious about but don't fully understand. It is the topic of cameras distorting the vertical perspective. First, why does that happen and how can we as artists best notice and compensate for that. Understanding that would be great for anyone using ref photos.

Another helpful video, Stephen. Thank you. Slightly off topic, would you consider doing a video on how to use a 4 x 4 grid when sketching a photograph, please? Is there a particular grid tool you like to use?

Hi Stephen, love your channel, I've just started drawing at the age of 63 after many years away from it. I find myself being more drawn ( pardon the term lol ) to line drawing, so Ive been practicing a lot of late. Im wondering what pens and sizes you use, are they all Copic or do you use others depending on subject ect? Thank you, Stevie ( UK )
