Not to the creative level that Jack Kirby was. There will never be another comic magazine artist as creative and as talented as Kirby was. There hasn't been in the last 30 years since he passed away and will not be in the next century. Just read about what he created since the early 1940s to the 1970s. AGL@@luxuriousmindset1906

I've seen Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld do it too. Seems like whenever they wing it this is what they're doing, though I could be wrong. It's great to hear from Marsh! Thanks for checking out my video.

This really interesting. Do you think he knew he was doing this?

I don't know. I'm thinking it's 50/50. On one hand, he's drawn more comics than most artist will in 2 or 3 lifetimes and I would imagine he would come up with his own short cuts to get things done (or were shown to him). Then on the other hand he could just be one of these people that can do really cool things naturally and not sure on how they do them.

Where do you find public domain characters?

Google public domain superheroes, click on the images tab, check out Alex Ross art for public domain superheroes, good stuff. There is also a Fandom and Wiki thing you could look up. Sorry for the late reply.

What a bizarre idea to take one of those (Kirby) who least respected human anatomy as a model and reference. Take inspiration from Neal Adams or Alex Ross, the gods of dynamic realism. If they impress you too much, there are plenty of others to help you progress. But the best way to learn is to observe real bodies or photos of real bodies, simplified anatomy books and classic drawing methods.

Very excellent points made there good sir! If I may add to the discussion, what I was trying to show in the video is a simple method to draw people in perspective in relation to one another. It wasn't to show the proper methods of drawing anatomy but rather a quick easy method to make things look 'right' to the reader. Something that every pro in comics has done in one way or another. I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss Jack Kirby, after all, both Neal Adams and Alex Ross have studied him at one point or another. I hope in a future video I can shed light or remind people of some cool Neal Adams tricks that he would do when making comics. Anyway, thank you for watching the video and for your insights!

@@C.B.Smallwood, but "the Jack Kirby" method is one of the worst for drawing people or drawing super heroes. No, Neal Adams and Alex Ross didn't study Kirby to learn how to draw, their references in this field are quite different, Alex Ross cites Norman Rockwell and both learned from photographic models. Alex Ross uses them constantly, not just for anatomy, but also for lighting, which is fundamental in drawing because we see things only because they reflect light, and so everything is light and shadow, and he also use photos for textures. When Alex Ross did Fantastic Four Full Circle as a tribute to Kirby and Lee's FFs, he admitted that, graphically, he is close to Neal Adams and Buscema. There was a time, in the 70s and 80s, when Kirby wasn't much appreciated. That's changed a bit, due to media bludgeoning by some new so-called comic-book critics. But no human being resembles the way Kirby treats the human body, especially in the latter half of his career. When you want to be a professional artist, you learn anatomy as it really is, not by drawing square bodies or flat hands, not by drawing the muscles in a hazardous way with improbable shapes or arms that are disproportionately too long and bodies that are always out of balance, which robs them of all weight and strength, contrary to what false critics claim. Many artists use photo references, even great non-photo-realistic artists such as Frazetta, some don't admit it, but this only serves as a basis. It's up to the artist to choose the final rendering, which isn't necessarily super-realistic.

@@philippealain-art NEWS FLASH! This isn't a video on anatomy. Its a video on PERSPECTIVE. You can use stick figures to show perspective. This video is showing some of Kirby's PERSPECTIVE techniques and that it! Its not even a how to draw people video! It's a how Jack Kirby places multiple figures in space video. How can you not understand that? This video said nothing about anatomy. Absolutely zero. So your bitching about anatomy is both hilarious and makes zero sense. Who cares what the anatomy is! Who cares if you like Kirby or not. BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH.
