Seriously, I've always been a fan of your work but with this channel, you not only show your impressive design and production, but you also show gratitude and respect for those who came before you. I just love anything about Jack Kirby and you truly honor the King.

I recently came across Mighty Marvel Marathon video here on YT. I instanly became intranced in the animation style and story telling. After reading through the comment section of that video , i came across many statements on how Jack Kirby was "done dirty" bc of a lack of financial compensation of his work on the comics and cartoons. I then realized that the cartoons were a live action of the comics. I was memorized by this and wondered how these cartoons came directly from Kirbys art and how exactly how the cartoons translated from the comics. I also wondered how the voice actors in the picture's were incorporated to animation. 🤔 I'm intrigued as to how this process worked and appreciate your work here as a glimps into this process. Thank you for sharing your information on this tipic and i look forward to more if possible! If anyone can refer me to more information into the comic to cartoon process with the Marvel comics and Jack Kirby! Thanks again!

This is a great analysis of that fight panel. Everyone knows there;s magic and power in Jack kirby's art but you are telling why his stuff works. One thing that I simply like is that Jack doesn't try to break out of the panel or change the size of the panels at all. And he doesn't change the size of the figures that much either. And the camera angles don't follow any sense of a hollywood style cinematography. Instead he follows a simple comic strip approach where you're able to focus on a simple but telling visual from one panel to the next. It's very easy to tell what's going on so I find myself focused on whats happening instead of trying to piece things together like a puzzle. And that combined with his amazing abstract powerful art style makes it very memorable. I find myself really enjoying panel transitions in modern comics but when it comes to remembering stuff, Jack kirby's work always comes first to my mind even if its not his best stuff.

Thank you, it means a lot that you’d take a minute to say all that. I agree that sometimes comics just work best as comics and no one was better at that than Kirby. Even on an off day.

Same with me i did not like kirbys art at first, maybe because i grew up in the days of the extreme 90s comic era with big men with big muscles and lots of pouches. But as i grew older kirby out shun alot of artists in his day and was a genius on the page.

I LOVE Kirby,more so for how he grew-up.I grew-up in very high-crime projects/hoods,fought with guns,knives,bare-handed,etc,etc,..He fought in WW2,was a scout ( very dangerous,if you're caught,instant death )I did 4 deployments to go fight in Iraq with the Texas Guard ( did 2 tours with an infantry unit ) I was very good at it too. LOL. My soldiers called me-MAD-DOG behind my back,got a good laugh about that when someone told me.I concluded this with being a civilian contracter over-seas ( Qatar,Iraq,Kuwaitt & Afghanistan )for over 10 yrs.

Great insights on Jack. That said, I find it annoying that you slap your captions right in the middle of a lot of work. It covers up a lot of the great artwork.

Well… we are on the same team. If you watch the whole video, by the end I tried to (subtly) make the case that he’s more nuanced than most people credit him for being.

Jack Kirby was the true (KING)... Stan Lee was a piece of shit for what he did to Jack and Steve taking credit for the ideas and character design that these two created. I actually called Stan Lee out in 1987 at a comic convention at the Hotel Pennsylvania in NY in front of Dave Cockrum and John Byrne and fans.

I noticed that Jack Kirby gave a somewhat apeish look to all his caracters when working for marvel. Seemed like the bad guys had an overly jutted and big jaw and overly square forehead. While the good guys you could kind of see it but it wasnt as overly noticeable When he did get to DC it was there but toned down but if you looked close you could kind of see it!!!!
@jasonlatour

There’s some discussion of that in the new gods videos on this channel. There’s definitely times when he was very direct with his visual metaphors.

Kirby was phenomenal but had weaknesses. He couldn't finish a drawing without an inker, his figures were over-blocky and stiff and his work while bursting with power... lacked beauty and could be goofy af. Time to let go of ALL comics legends and EVOLVE.
