I can happily state that we've always been around, and we're bigger now than ever, with over 10,000 students online on our discord chat community at most times each day. We don't release new videos often mostly because we invest our resources primarily in providing feedback to our students (both through paid feedback and through general interaction with our students on discord), but also because we think it's important to go back over our material - videos et all - to apply any new explanations we may have developed through all that interaction. It's slow going, especially as the new videos use actual camera footage, but we plan to update every video throughout the course. Once that's done, we'll be able to make a variety of more interesting and less instructional videos that'll actually be able to gain more traction. I look forward to being able to talk about things like the misconceptions behind the concept of a dream job, what kinds of largely ignored ways in which drawing/visual communication can be leveraged to forge unexpected career paths when combined with other areas of study, and other things about the larger problems and challenges people face when it comes to negotiating the dynamics of something as lofty as "art" with mundane things like skill (as opposed to talent), learning, and jobs. Buuut, all in its due course. The sooner I can finish overhauling the course, the sooner I can expand our TA's responsibilities, and make more time for things like that.

While studying lesson 3, I watched some old videos and discovered that Drawabox has more than 2 parts. I would be delighted for its return in the future.

Unfortunately we don't have plans to expand beyond the core 7 lessons. We long ago made the decision to focus on developing what this course does best (hence the updates gradually trickling out) rather than focusing on expanding the topics we cover, although the latter would definitely generate a lot more revenue. Ultimately we know what we want Drawabox to accomplish, wish to do it as effectively as we can, and leave those other topics to other resources to provide.

I just finished this homework from the old tutorial, should I redo it with this new method or just continue to the next lesson?

The video updates for the most part aren't really changing the instructions of the exercises. Those instructions may be rearranged, or delivered differently, but the work ultimately ends up being the same, so you're fine to move forward with what you've already done - but do be sure to get feedback on that homework before moving forwards, so you're not working in a vacuum. Beginners aren't generally equipped to self-critique when it comes to this course, which is why we go to such lengths to provide avenues for feedback that are free, as well as subsidized.

Completely unnecessary, but I drew tiny arrows following paths of the three lines of the initial Y and I find that helped me keep track of the direction of the vanishing points for each box as I drew the other lines that complete the Y into a finished box. (I only did this at the very start cause I was getting a little confused as to what should go where, and that helped)

I find it particularly helpful AFTER you finish drawing the box, to SEE where mistakes in alignment are coming from when they happen.

Also for the sense of depth of boxes coming 'nearer' (i.e. making the boxes increasing in size gradually) to the viewer I tried just drawing a series of 'Y's increasing in size, and only afterwards started completing the lines of each Y into a box and I had good results with that (don't do that on your first time with this exercise though lol)

Honestly I often without thinking will add little arrow heads to the ends of lines when I know I need to be thinking about how they behave as they continue on into the distance - so hell yeah, that's certainly a handy habit to have.

Not going to lie I keep quitting and restarting trying to learn to draw, I often feel so overwhelmed and confused I just quit drawing at all only to months later feel a "pull" to want to learn to draw sometimes I wish my mind would just quit wanting to learn to draw but seems it is sadly something I can't control. Anyway now for the question I have, In the video it seems like the curvy line is supposed to be the guide of where the boxes are in the 3D space like how close they are to the viewer, issue is in this video the curvy line you made seems to look about the same thickness and the parts that do look thinner (The parts that are I think supposed to hint that it is not close to the viewer) have boxes that seem bigger vs areas with have thicker lines that have small boxes. Maybe I am just misunderstand standing how the line is supposed to be used.

the guide line weight doesnt indicate the depth of a given box, its just the "path" that their on, which swoops to an imaginary (and far away) point. If you saw it "from the top" you would see a like going away from the viewer while going side to side (idk if i explained it well but)

Anywhere the line is thicker or thinner is just a factor of the pen itself, not intentional. The line does indeed represent the path the boxes follow, but that's all - it is not intentionally to be made thicker or thinner to convey depth. Best to stick to the specifics of the instructions - you can certainly ask questions as you did here for clarity, but as a rule of thumb if the instruction is not given, it's probably an unintentional inference being made.

I've been a professional artist for a decade and going through this for a fun refresher. And this just doesn't make sense to me. It seems overly verbose and complicated to the point of over thinking. Reading the web page, I can't see any reason for the squiggly line on the page, nor a reason to do 3 separate guess dots for the cubes when converging when 1 is all you need. I end up just drawing the cubes without any of that, ignoring the Y all together. Needless to say, it is just a little frustrating to understand, it feels it lacks a simpler explanation. The why.
