Is it always a perfect ellipses when the it touches all edges? I get confused sometimes because sometimes my ellipses are egg shaped and I'm not sure if it is right like that
@Uncomfortable
@Uncomfortable 3 жыл бұрын
You should be striving to stick to evenly shaped, "perfect" ellipses here. Egg shaped implies that it is not an ellipse, so that would be incorrect. All that matters is that the ellipse is a proper ellipse, and that it touches all four edges. It doesn't matter *where* it touches the edges - it doesn't have to be at their midpoints.

What should be the scale of the planes/line/eclipse that we draw on paper? As I do not want to draw too small or too big.
@Uncomfortable
@Uncomfortable 2 жыл бұрын
There's no specific scale you should be aiming for, but you can certainly use the example provided in the website ( drawabox.com/lesson/1/13/example ) and in the video where the exercise itself is demonstrated ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3a4lGCko85kldk ), as a reference for that.

When should I go over to the next lesson/Exercise?
@Uncomfortable
@Uncomfortable 2 жыл бұрын
You'll find this explained in Lesson 0, so if you haven't gone through it yet, definitely do so. Basically every exercise has a specific quantity assigned as homework (these are listed in the written material on the website). Once a student completes all the assigned homework for the lesson, they get feedback on their work (either for free from the community, which is available on the website, on the subreddit, and on the discord chat server, or via the paid 'official critique' route). So you rely on others to look over your work, call out anything you may have missed or misunderstood, and assign revisions if they're necessary. If you're demonstrating a good grasp of the material, they'll mark the lesson as complete and you can move forward, while continuing to practice these exercises as part of a regular warmup routine.

Hey uncomfortable, I just wanted to ask where the rest of the videos are? Like the video about the 250 boxs challenge? Update: Nevermind, I found them. Just that the playlist disappeared and I was starting to panic!
@Uncomfortable
@Uncomfortable 2 жыл бұрын
Glad you found them. Generally you should be following along with the course on the website itself, alongside the written material. The newer videos (whose production is currently paused as my apartment flooded, should resume in september) are designed to be more concise and cover more of the stuff you'll find in the written material, but the old stuff *definitely* needs to be consumed alongside the written stuff. That's why I removed the old playlist, so students would have to follow along with the website and wouldn't be at risk of missing huge swathes of content.

Sure it will! Foundations are foundations, and DaB will help you on digital, ink, pencil, canvas, etc. There is a good reason to do that on ink and paper, and it is not related to just "ink and paper is the tradition". You can find a good explanation here: drawabox.com/article/ink

Is it okay if I listen to songs while doing the exercises?
@Uncomfortable
@Uncomfortable 3 жыл бұрын
It comes down to this - you don't want to be doing things that are going to distract you. How music impacts a person depends. Some people find that music with vocals is distracting but instrumental music is not. Some people find that certain kinds of music actually help them focus more. Some people get distracted by all music. This is something you'll have to reflect upon yourself.

It’s really not possible to touch all 4 edges and still get a true ellipse, is it?
@Uncomfortable
@Uncomfortable Жыл бұрын
It is! Your thinking is on the right track though, in that when we start making considerations for perspective, there are situations where the ellipse is a very useful but not entirely accurate *simplification* of how a circle looks in perspective. But, to the specifics of your question, you certainly can have a true ellipse that touches all four edges of a given plane. Each ellipse can be thought of as having two main properties that we can alter - its orientation, and its degree/width. In adjusting these, we can make the ellipse make single contact with all four edges - although nailing it freehand is another story entirely, and takes a great deal of practice for some of the wackier planes.

Is it normal that my arm will get sore while doing these exercises especifically deltoids muscles?
@Uncomfortable
@Uncomfortable Жыл бұрын
Drawing in this manner definitely makes extensive use of those upper arm muscles, which will make them sore, similar to any other workout. Be sure to pace yourself, take breaks, and stop if the pain you're feeling goes beyond basic soreness and becomes more of a sharp pain.

How do you get to the point where your straight lines stop right at the point you want? I frequently stop a fraction too early or draw through the point.. :/
@Uncomfortable
@Uncomfortable 2 ай бұрын
The simple answer? Practice. That's why these exercises, once you've finished Lesson 1 and moved on, become a part of your regular warmup routine, as explained back in Lesson 0. The homework here serves to confirm that you understand what you should be aiming for, but you're going to be drawing a ton of these lines throughout the entirety of the course - both in the warmup exercises, as well as part of your later lessons and challenges.

You maaay want to review this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHPNhXqspclgp5o . It explains that even if you make mistakes by your own judgment, you should not do any of the exercises more than what's assigned. Once you're done the lesson, you get feedback on it from a third party, and they'll let you know if the exercise should be redone, or if it should just be relegated to your warmups as per usual.
