I just want to say thank for all these lessons. I've learnt so many important things so far in them. Lessons like these would cost a hundred dollars, but you made these for free! I just watched this video today, and using the method in this video, I drew a cat. It wasn't as good of a cat as you or other amazing artists would draw but, for someone like me who normally doesn't draw very good, it was good. Thanks again for these amazing lessons!

From my psyc class: your working memory only remembers a few (normally 7) chunks of information. The more you understanding something the better the brain is at chunking it and so you can remember 'more'. ie an experienced artist can remember 'almond shaped eye, that is blue, and wide set' (3 chunks) where as a beginner will have to basically remember stroke for stroke so might be able to store the outline of the outside of the eye and that is that. Or perhaps a more relevant example is knowing (having studied) a variety of textures so your working memory just remembers 'small scales' and your long term memory will fill in the rest. Because that is how our memory works, especially long term. It abstracts things and we tend to remember abstract information and essentially 'recreates' the memory when we remember it. This is a gross oversimplification but the point is. As you learn and practice you do get better at remembering stuff in working memory for this reason. But there are limits.

@@sempiternal_futility I stopped in the middle of L5 and I haven't done more DAB in a really long while. But I already learnt so much from it. I will someday finish the rest.

So draw in segments? Basically? Gather small information of an area or picture and try to draw it in detail? Then go back look again and draw more detail on another area?
@Uncomfortable
@Uncomfortable 4 жыл бұрын
Yes- especially for now. Usually we're still using the whole "start big and then break things down into smaller sections, working from simple to complex" but because of how texture is already so packed with visual information, we're going to work through it here a little bit at a time, always thinking about the forms that are present and the shadows they cast on their surroundings.

I agree with whats been said on the video. But don't you think that one should first observe to simplify the whole shape, so you draw the basic form of what you're looking at, and then start focusing on the details on top of that

You have said in one video what The book Drawing with the Right side of Brain took a book to say. That books almost made me quit to drawing, because I always feel constructional drawing is the right approach, even though I didn't even know it was thing.
