That's actually the reasoning behind the name, though. It's supposed to be either gurgling or "urks" (onomatopoeia for choking) + vogel (german for bird). It's name LITERALLY means that it's a bird that makes choking sounds.

Name Breakdown: Urgl - Cramorant - From "Urks", an onomatopeia for gagging, "gurgeln" which means to.. gargle and "Vogel" which just means bird. You just skip the e from that. Pottrott - Shuckle - From "Pott" (Which is an oldfashioned word for.. well a pot, though more in the sense of a clay pot or urn) or a Potpourri (you can probably guess to which english word this translates) and "verotten" which means well... to rot. Shuckle are used to make "berry juice" by giving them berries which will ferment in its hollow body. Flunkifer - Mawile - From "flunkern" which means to lie and "Kiefer" which means jaw, since its jaw is a lie. Its actually a horn. Kleinstein - Geodude - From "klein" which means small and "Stein" which means rock. Yeah...

re: "fusion" evolutions there is one pair that does something similar to that, karrablast and shelmet. they evolve if you trade them for each other, and their evolutions resemble each other a little bit. its a cool concept, i wish theyd done more like that.
