Beautiful work Carole thanks for sharing. I’m new to pastels and would like to venture into animal drawings. Could you recommend a pastel pencil set. I’ve bought the stabillo carbello brand ( haven’t used them yet) but wondering if that was the right choice thanks

They are a very good pencil so you did good. I also use Rembrandt sticks, and Caran d”Ache pastel pencils, but they’re costly. I think you’re fine with those and some sticks. ☺️

Merci! Ceci est le Clairefontaine Pastelmat et j’utilise plutôt les crayons Caran d’Ache et Carbothello Stabilo, et les craies de Rembrandt.

This is a side view. The other eye is hidden on the other side of the head, which is unseen.

Carole Rodrigue yes I saw that but it should have some dark muted color and muted reflective pieces I think. Because the fur above and below the back eye have color to...so light does reflex on that part ...or make the fur darker in the back...still a wonderful painting but that part distracts me a little.

It seriously is really like that in the reference Kiki. Low key photography often blacks out lower light. I personally like it. It makes for a great chiaroscuro. And thanks!

You can do that too. I’ve never seen black Clairefontaine pastelmat though, and it’s my favorite paper. There’s anthracite, but it’s much too grainy for my taste.
