AYOOOOO omg omg i opened my eyes and RAN to this - JUST FINISHED wowowowow djkafljdklsjf;sadkfsa ;w; first of all - I LOVEEEEEE this angle/style of watching you draw holy shit!!! It reminds me of stream just edited down!? I think being able to see your hand real time is fucking awesome. It's literally like.... watching an up-close magician fr you just do a line.. and do a line... and I'm WAtching you do it... and all of a sudden fucking magical miracle there's this literal wholly expressive person on the screen I CANNOT FATHOM God i was cackling hearing the VO - i am simultaneously so sorry for putting you through this and also NOT SORRY BECAUSE YOU LITERALLY NAILED IT YOU LITERALLY DID EXACTLY WHAT I WAS HOPING + MORE like good lord your decisions on this rendering style was 1000/10 perfection. I also think it interestingly goes so well with what you were saying about being unsure about dealing with someone elses character - like having one of the layers be sketchy kind of gives a very fluid interpretation/flexibility, especially when it comes to subtle emotions?? And also LOLLLing in disbelief about how ... WELL. how PERFECTLY you capture expressions and emotions - I TOTALLY see what you're saying with Jago omg - and that even though Barathir isn't over the top, seeing him drawn with your expertise in expression captured just a massive range... and I think that's just one of the things you are so freaking nuts at ... you can explicitly show so much emotion in ANY characters face, whether they are super showy and over the top, or very subtle or stoic. I feel like you can draw "sad" 50000 different ways, depending on the nuances of the character. nuts. NUTS!!!! UR NUTS i cannot overemphasize how much I love how this turned out and how GRATEFUL I AM TO LOOK AT IT ALL THE TIME EVERY DAYYYYYYYYYY - I AM IN AWE ;w; He's so REAL also "i cant draw pretty" draws the prettiest motherfuckers- So so fun to see you work and hear your thought process hahahah - altho again I am so sorry for stressin you ouTTT HAHAH I LOVE YOUUUUUU thank you so much you literally will never comprehend how much I love it

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG I'M JUST GETTING TO THE COMMENTS AND THIS WAS HIDDEN AMONG THEM!!!! You're too kind AHHHH omg you were so thoughtful and thorough with your reply; thank you so much for all the kind words and letting me draw your baby!!! I'm so happy you liked it LOVE YOUUUUUUU GAWD HAPPY BDAYYYY 😭😭😭😭😭😭🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 ALSO LOL- Justin usually puts a finished product pan at the end but he forgot this time 😂 He's still OP though 🥰

Just wanted to let you know that there was atleast one person who understood the work backwards concept BEFORE you got to the puzzle edge description! Lol, I've had to do it myself. While I TOTALLY get how it goes when drawing other people's characters, but I remind you that what WE see as the artist and what the person sees as the recipient, are not the same thing. If she trusts you like that, it means she loves your style and sense of artistic license as they are. Oh, and that sketchy yet rendered look you were trying to achieve? NAILED IT.

I have a tendency to over-render, so lately I've been trying to strip my process down and focus on shapes and textures through the simplest means possible. This video puts into words so many of the things I've been experimenting with, makes me feel like I'm heading in the right direction!

I like this video style a lot. I watch speedpaints to observe how an artist might be thinking while they work, but this offers a lot more information without needing to be a tutorial. It’s a pretty comfortable format, for a lack of better words. The commentary was also pretty interesting. I want to start commissions this year, and the struggle of portraying something close to the creator’s own interpretation of their character is something I’ve thought about. It’s only natural that there’d always be a gap between both visions. Seeing you succeed and pull of such a nice expression sheet despite how challenging it was for you is so satisfying👍👍

i really enjoy this type recording for art vids. sometimes i find speedpaints to be too fast and detached from the watcher, but these where u actually see the hand makes the video more down to earth? idk how to explain it feels like watching your friend draw and easier to learn seeing ur hand strokes etcetc

I have this weird totally normal habit that kicks to life during drawings or speedpaints, that cause me to start drawing when i just intend to learn a bit xD Now im drawing my friend as his more.. Elfish-like persona, inspired from what later winds up being the Top Middle pose. Although the design quickly loses any semblance of the inspiration, i have now wound up with a new drawing project due to a video that rather amazingly shows different angles and a superb way to draw. This video gave me a lot to think about!

You didn’t ask me, but the program is called PureRef. It’s really good. It’s completely free. You can do cool things like copying the URL of a Pinterest board and pasting all of the images from the board right into PureRef. It has a lot of shortcuts and cool tricks that make it really easy to gather your references and look at them as you draw. There are videos about some of those tricks, so I recommend checking it out👍👍
