Good man, I like the way you explain your moves and I think your video is instructive for all those who are hesitating whether to go into guitar building or manufacturing. I never used Fusion 360, I preferred to have fun with Rhinoceros 5, and I wasn't particularly specific, like you, I was more focused on a unique headstock that would distinguish my guitars from the "big brothers" and avoid lawyers knocking on the door. I almost bought a CNC router, even my wife supported me, she said: it's better than "holding the bar" in the bar. People like you make Yt a wonderful place to spend an afternoon, learn something, and make your day. Thank you.

Most welcome! Glad you find the video helpful. The most fun is seeing the body become reality on a CNC router, though. You can buy one (which is probably the easiest way, not the cheapest. Note:: when creating the loft for the compound fretboard, i had to remove the fillet from earlier in the build to make it work, awesome video by the way!! edit- another snag i ran into on mine was when i went to offset the face of the neck to join it to headstock i had to define it as a new offset in the options, i also had to constrain the distance from headstock to the fretboard to keep it from moving when offsetting the face of the neck

Many thanks for taking the trouble to post this tutorial. I taught myself to draw a guitar in fusion 360 using the tutorials. Having spent many frustrating hours I got there in the end. As an engineer I learnt to draw so my approach was based on creating sketches and then the models. So having made the hard yards with this approach it is fantastic for me to see the more advanced methods you use working directly from the models. So much quicker and a more simple. I also like the idea of turning off the timeline as I had a lot of frustration with all the error messages. Many thanks and please keep posting videos.

Hi, beatiful video but i have a problem when splitting the tremolocover. The system is unable to split and I do not understand why (it seems to me because the face is curved or because it cannot manage the 3mm offset face). Error: Coincident tools would create illegal or unproductive bodies. Use separate tools. Split body in video at 01:00:46 Can you help me?
@Audiohotshot2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm that error does not sound familiar to me... sorry. A guick google suggested you have a bunch of different faces crossing each other making it impossible to perform the split. You might check whether that is the case. Closing the gap in the cover could also be performed by pulling (hit Q) the inner walls of the gap to bridge it in a few steps. To finetune the curve you might need to clean up the top surface somewhat, but the gap is closed.. Hope this helps.

For some insipiration you could take a look here kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYqWdmqfmtWtpdU and kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3SofJ1mq7KegK8. There are different methods for double sided milling, one of them I explain here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpqac2V_p5t8r5I I hope this is helpful, most of the things you mention are mentioned in the vids I guess. Have fun!

Very nice video. Can't get my 'offset plane' command to work like yours, mine extrudes the neck feature straight, not tapered, not sure what i'm doing wrong.

Great video. It took you 1:10 to do what took mw days lol. Some very logical ways to create some parts I struggled with. Would you be able to show how you setup the machinging of the curved control covers? Is it just from thin stock and use tabs to keep it in place in the stock when you flip it over?
@Audiohotshot5 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right; I would use big enough stock (and maybe even the same type material) and then create a double sided job with holding tabs. You can find a video on doublesided milling here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHPbZatoiZKcf7s

Can a .svg or something like that be used as a starting point? I have a discontinued guitar body that I'd like to make and I already have a perfectly sized svg of the body and cavities. Maybe I can just pay you to make the bodies?

Awesome tutorial. Although every time I go to split the bottom half of the neck join to remove that particular body it tries to tell me there is no intersection between targets and the split tool. I tried ensuring all bodies were selected and then used the plane as the reference point with no luck. First time I've had an error message. Can't really get past this so far with little experience.
@Audiohotshot4 жыл бұрын
Hmmmm kinda hard to tell without pictures. Could you tell the timecode of the video at the point where you get stuck? I’m guessing now that the “bend” of the neck and the neck joint are not combined properly. Other thing could be that you contructionplane isn’t in the right position. Let me know if It works out for you! You got so far already, I’m pretty sure you can do this!
@DatGloriaVires4 жыл бұрын
@@Audiohotshot it's at 14.08. I'll double check to see if everything is combined properly, but the construction plane appears to be in the exact same spot as yours.

You mention in your first post you selected all parts, but in fact I just have 1 complete neck part which I split. Just curious: Did you use extend splitting tool as well (just to be sure, it's not really necessary though). Hope this helps!

Thank you very much! I've not used Fusion 360 yet, you make it look reasonably easy. I understand some key concepts now. I assume one could save some operations as a library item. Example: the entire trem cavity. Regards!
@Audiohotshot5 жыл бұрын
AFAIK Fusion360 has no "macro function". But it does have a script function and Parametric modeling, though. Which basically means you could write a piece of code to create something (which I did for the Fret Generator). Instead of using macros; you could make a "blueprint"-file with several sketches holding the trem cavity, pickups and so on, all pre-drawn with the correct dimensions. I do have such a file, but notice myself being much quicker if I draw them straight away. Hope this helps!

This video has helped a lot and I thank you a million! But I do have to ask, do you have a video somewhere that shows a neck to headshot volute? By following your guidelines in this video I have actually created two of my own just missing the little details & one being a baritone. But anyway, the volute is about to drive me crazy🤪😜! That one part is actually kind of holding me back before I have it complete. But again I thank you for this video, it has helped a lot!!👍🏻

Hi! I’m not quite sure I know what you mean by “neck to headshot volute” (it’s probably me, not being native English). Does this vid show you what you mean? kzbin.info/www/bejne/fam9f4hshbGsmK8 If not, please point me in the right direction as for what you mean, I also like to learn :-) Kind regards!

Just thx u, but just one question. Taking a picture to get the dimensions.... Are u sure there are no picture distortion, so measurement errors due to camera Lens or focal for exemple ?
@Audiohotshot5 жыл бұрын
I use the picture as a guideline on which I base my own design. I do not use the canvas for 'the dimensions' of the picture, but I do use the scalelength to roughly get a feel for size and shape. So feel free to adapt the given design to your likings and disregard any 'dimensions' of the picture :-) Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for this video it saved me a lot of time in designing my guitars. I do have a question though. I like to set the neck back about 2 degrees is there a way you can show how to do this? Also in creating an arch top do you have a video on how to do so? Kind of like Les Paul or PRS guitars. I watched other videos but they are not very explanatory as your video. Thank you again
@Audiohotshot Жыл бұрын
My solution for drawing a setback of 2 degree's would be by keeping the neck level, but drawing the body onto an angled plane. But I've not tried that, hopefully someone else has a tried-and-tested solution for you! In regards to drawing an archtop; I like to work with splines, SURFACE and lofts for more fluent shapes; gives me good control over curves. But i've seen people drawing it with FORM and MESH as well, I guess it is just what you happen to like better.

At 10:34 Using the delete command causes the program to warn "This feature is referenced by other features in the timeline. Are you sure you want to delete?" Hitting the delete button at this point leaves just the block remaining. Should I use the remove command instead?
@Audiohotshot4 жыл бұрын
Correct, you probably did not disable capture timeline history, which is fine, but then you have to use remove instead. The advantage of using timeline history is that everything stays editable; ex. if you’d ever like to change a dimension you’ve created earlier on. (Explained in the beginning of the video btw 😊) Hope this helps
