I love your technique of adding highlights first. I’ll definitely give this a try. Thanks so much Bonny.

A wonderful start to what will be another fantastic portrait! No need to apologize about your nails, I completely understand! I try to keep mine nice, but I use my hands so much, I tend to just give up on them. I look forward to Part 2!

Your tips are really useful Bonny and I will definitely try to apply them. I am using Fabriano watercolour paper at the moment, but I want to experiment with pastelmat in the nearby future to see if I like it. These tips come in really handy. Looking forward to the next parts!

Had a good laugh at your expense over your finger nails 😂😂😂 was very interested hearing your comment on using FC white as an underlay or 1 layer/sketch thats exactly what Ive found on the piece Im drawing which is a pale blue dress on a toddler. Hasnt worked well at all. Will know for future.

i use free hand but i do measure like there are 5 eye sizes from one ear to the next . you measure a body height you take a head size to the size of a person lets say can work for animals too. a person is 6 ' you'ld use 6 heads from top of the head to the bottom of the chin 6 times. then lets say you want your head to shoulder its 2 head . you have 3 heads for the torso etc and i also do it in relation to the composition . foreshadowing is a bit harder .i learned this in art class. the nose is the same size of the forehead and the nose is the same length for the chin from the base of the nose you can always measure yourself .

I'm a patreon to a number of tutorials, have you thought of going on Patreon? If you do, I'll be your first customer, what you do is fantastic, not many artists can deliver tutorials the way you do, you are right up there with the best of them.

Whoz Art that’s so incredibly kind of you 😊 yes I’m planning a Patreon in the next few months. I just want to give it 100% of my time 😊

Let me know as I can assist you with what others are doing. Emma Colbert is an inspiration, she only started a while back on Patreon, she does her commission paintings in between until her Patreon gets some wings. My website is www.whozartportraits.com if you want to have a look, only started with pastels in Nov last year and have only started playing with coloured pencils, I have a full set of Polychomos and Luminance. Go for it Bonny!

Thanks Bonny for another super helpful video and explanation of your reasons behind your methods, makes perfect sense as I often get a bit lost in a piece at the start, I ll definitely give mapping out the highlights at the start a go! Thanks for recommending the white Pablo too! I usually use a smooth ish paper like Stonehenge, I’m just starting out learning coloured pencils and tried pastelmat but struggled to get the definition in my marks think I need more layers - I just wondered if you’ve tried colourfix paper smooth or original and if so your thoughts as I’d like to find something I can put lights over darks on?
@BonnySnowdonAcademy6 жыл бұрын
Ben Mansfield thank you 😊 the thing with pastelmat is the layering and it does take time to get the hang of it. I’ve not used the colourfix smooth but have seen others use it with success - maybe I need to have a go 😉

Really lovely so far! Did you use transfer paper or a free hand sketch for the initial sketch? This horse is so beautiful, as is all your work.
@BonnySnowdonAcademy5 жыл бұрын
Susan Perrine i prefer to freehand but sadly I don’t have the luxury of time to add another day onto my commissions so I use a projector for a basic outline 😊

Doesn't pastelmat use a lot of your coloured pencils up? How many layers do you use to complete a horse on this paper? I have never done a bay horse before so looking to decide on colours. I have full sets of prismas and Fabers.
@BonnySnowdonAcademy5 жыл бұрын
I tend to use very light pressure, and I don't sharpen my pencils a lot, I've started to use fewer and fewer layers which helps

Thank you Bonny for sharing your talents with us. I had to laugh I just did my nails before viewing this. LOL What type of pencil did you use to outline with?
