Drawing a Kākāpō- New Zealand’s Flightless Parrot

Kākāpō (kakapo) are a large flightless parrot endemic to Aotearoa New Zealand. This drawing is one of the most detailed bird sketches I’ve ever done, with the video being recorded over a period of four days. It’s a combination of watercolours, pencil and a white paint pen.

Instantly recognisable as soon as you drew the eye! Always amazing the watch the layers of detail appear on your bird drawings, the white posca and dark green pencil being particularly satisfying

Thanks Eden! For something like this I’m definitely using a reference photo. It helps keep me on track with not just proportions but colour too.
