Thank you so much for watching! Hope this video helps you to take a quick sketch all the way to a finished drawing :) let me know if you have any comments, or what your approach is to work on a longer study?

I needed help with the initial gesture part of it first. ty I learned that a mistake doesn’t need to be erased necessarily. Take it easy:) ty

Thank you and totally absorbing. I was intrigued by how you felt your way into the gesture - the angles, flow and shapes - to approximations of where the contour line should be and then to that moment when you commit to the line (erasure not really an option). All this without the usual references to anatomy - the line of the spine, the location and shape of the ribcage, the angles of the shoulders and pelvis, whatever, although I think it must be informed by a good knowledge of these things (?) The result was certainly beautiful and the video a fascinating insight into how to get there in a short 20 minutes!

Hi Andrew, thank you so much for this awesome comment! I'm so glad to know you enjoyed the video and found it useful. I think yes, I have an understanding of anatomy, but I tend to avoid "drawing" the anatomy, and prefer to focus on what is seen (ie, what is observed and felt), and approaching the figure that way means you can let go of the rigid prescription of an idealized anatomy, and draw in a looser way. I'm so glad this video is relevant and interesting to you! Thank you again for watching

The contour line is tricky subject, it makes the object stiff when is over used.....my opinion as an amateur , the contour line should enphasize that part of the object that the drawer believe as important. Thanks Rodrigo Almeida

I really like your style, and really enjoy watching your videos. It would be really helpful if you could show the reference photo in the corner of the screen as you are drawing. It would make the tutorial more informative for the viewer. Thanks D

Hi Deborah! thank you for watching! Unfortunately the reference image I'm drawing from is not my own, so it causes issues for copyright and KZbin guidelines if I include it. But I always include the link to the exact image in the description , you can reference it from there. Another consideration is that I try to focus on technique rather than result, so I don't want to have too much emphasis placed on how the drawing looks compared to the photo, hope that all makes sense? :)

This is brilliant! Are you working with a live model or a photograph? I agree with not overworking a drawing so your process works wonderfully for this! I have never been able to get a full drawing in 20 minutes. I may give this a try!

Thanks Elizabeth!! I'm drawing from photo reference - haven't been able to get to a live class in quite a while! So i tend to use reference from New Master's Academy youtube channel. For me 20 mins is a great length to draw! Definitely try it :)

Nearly all the videos are drawing with a photo reference. I wrote an article about the difference between drawing with a model and with a photo if you are interested : open.substack.com/pub/drawinglife/p/the-gift-of-drawing-from-life?r=de88b&

Random question - what is the meaning of your name ?
@Drawing-Life
@Drawing-Life 3 жыл бұрын
Haha - good question though! Siobhan is Irish/Gaelic for "Joanne" or "Joan" ... the spelling is usually what confuses people - pronounced Shivon / Shivaun ... :)
