Hi prokooo, I'm currently on artblock. I draw some portraits using charcoals. Now i wanna learn to manipulate the face and the body. I don't know where to start, I'm watching all you tutorials, I wonder if it'll be good if I start in body/gestures practice or face?

3:29 - Correction: we mixed up overmodeling and undermodeling in this video. When Stephen says overmodeling, think undermodeling...

Discovered your channel just two days back and I’m addicted already. I drew as a hobby all my life but now at age 47 am seriously thinking to study art. I love figurative sketching but never really studied anatomy (although I do have a book by Jeno Barcsay). I rediscovered my love for sketching during this lockdown when I sketched a few wall drawings using permanent markers. I know graphite pencil shading but suck at charcoal. I think I hit a treasure trove by discovering your channel. Btw, I have to admit that Stephen really excels in not just his art but also how he explains and describes everything. 😊

5:33 perfect example of an artistic mind operating on a higher dimension from an average person's mind , one sees a butt ( vulgar empty instantiation ) , the other sees forms and ideas , two very different realms .
@badusername99039 ай бұрын
as an artist,, u seem really pretentious. yes, butts are made of forms and ideas, but those forms and ideas are still an ass. these two things are true at once

Reminds me of Sinix' video on painting like a sculptor! This was maybe too high-concept or abstract for me to fully understand I think. I get the gist of what Baumann is trying to explain but so much is lost to me in (and I mean no offense) word soup. If you'd consider some feedback for a future video - perhaps have a bit at the end recapping what was said in simpler terms. Maybe more practical examples of his ideas put into practice as he's talking - like a finished work broken up into steps. Ah just noticed he has his own course on your website so I guess this was more of an advertisement for that. Still, really interesting to watch. Thank you Proko! :)

Drawing Like a Sculptor, i saw that while I was studying Bridgman. XD
@hektor67664 жыл бұрын
Of course the ancient sculptor modeled the original intact sculpture as a complete pose, with muscles contracted and relaxed accordingly. The artist would also need to conceive the full pose but draw only the intended fragment, or erase what was unwanted.
