I just saw a video of the great Nikolai Blokhin and he appears to use the dot technique.

Spent the last 8 or so years drawing quite realistic graphite and charcoal portraits - averaging around 20-40 hours for each one.... After watching some videos from this channel I dug out an old pack of natural charcoal and got to work; the first attempt looked more like 'Pennywise' but they improved from there... and I've just done a charcoal of Edward James Olmos that actually impresses me - in about an hour and a half! I'm having fun with my art again - in that it's not taking a lift-time away from my beloved guitars!

That's great to hear :) (I have guitars in the studio and often reach for one inbetween drawing)

Idk if you do Portrait request or whatnot but while you do a video can you draw paulie walnuts!

Rad! Sort of confused by the 3 dots- measure out each image and set 3 dot? Arbitrarily make 3 dot? Align them so something specific? Hard to tell as I don’t see what they’e related to/the spaces dont seem symmetrical. His eyes and ear?

sounds like you need a more formulaic approach? Loomis or similar might be better for you. Freehand drawing isn't for everyone :)

relating lengths is a formula, proportions. I get your point though, nice video.
@TonySwaby2 ай бұрын
Like I said you can do that, but it's very difficult with less traditional poses. Better to learn to see with accuracy 🙏

@@TonySwaby So just pure distances between things instead of ratios of distances? Just trying to clarify. I see a lot of your vids and like the style btw. Thanks

@@Jz-dx3dmThe relationships of things is not a formula, it can't be the same every time. Train your eye to see the relationships. Thank you :)
