But the whole process is shown on the video - I use pencil only to draw shapes, boundaries for the patterns

I recommend that you start with zen tangle/doodle art. This will enable you to practice drawing shapes and curvy lines in square boxes. You will advance pretty quickly and you’ll enjoy it along the way.there are a lot of KZbin videos and you can slow them down and follow until you’re comfortable and confident with your strokes.

The way I learn new stuff is by slowing the video down a lot, and then hit “pause” lots, going back to rewatch, if needed. To slow the video down, click on the video, then select the cog/wheel button (Settings). Then “Playback Speed”. You can set it as slowly as 25%.
