you are correct about "doubling" the points - or replicating the points. but those points need to be replicated in another dimension first - and then connected. e.g. when you went from line to plane - you doubled the points somewhere outside the line - which is in another dimension than the line.

Actually, there's a distinct upper limit to this approach. The number of points required grows exponentially with the number of dimensions. At around 167 dimensions, you'd need more points than there are atoms on the earth, so you'll need to invent the technology for both interplanetary travel and converting entire planets worth of material into scratch paper. That will only get you so far, though - once you get to around 265 dimensions, you'll need more points than there are particles in the observable universe. At that point, you will probably need to either find a way of creating more matter from nothing, or conclude that you've drawn the maximum number of dimensions using this method.

@sangjae29117 ай бұрын
Time is not a dimension. Dimension is a spatial concept meaning it has coordinate point which is a physical location. In fact, time is an illusion created by man to tell past, present, and the future (time actually doesn't exist). We do not move through time, rather everything we see is a memory of a past (there's a vsauce video on this too).

The easiest way to picture that 4th dimensional diagram is imagine that you're looking at a 3d cube, but able to see it in different points in time, time being the 4th vector. As 3d beings, we are only able to see one point in time at any given moment, just as a 2d being would only be able to perceive a 3 dimensional shape as a flat line as it passes through their field of view. Much like each moment in time for us. A 4th dimensional being would be able to look at all points in time easily, much as we can look up and down a 3d shape at will, whereas a 2d being could only see the portion of a 3d object that was intersecting their dimension, and even then only as a thin line.

Regarding 4th dimension, i see it as 2 cubes are joined through a 3D hexagon like figure
@1Chitus Жыл бұрын
Here’s a graspable concept (I think): Imagine you are a two dimensional being in a 2D plane. You could see what is in front of you even though it technically has infinite thinness. A sphere passes through this plane, it would start out as a small circle floating until it becomes a larger circle touching the “ground” and then it would start shrinking again and then pop out of existence. Now imagine you are in a 3D plane (not too difficult, I think). Imagine a hyper sphere (a four dimensional sphere) begins to pass through to 3D plane. As the W axis moves, the sphere will be small and floating, but as the w axis moves the sphere gets bigger until it touches the ground and then it starts to shrink until it pops out of existence. A very weird concept but it’s still graspable and imaginable.

Yep In reality, a 4d object in 3d space would look like a 3d object, because you can only observe the surface of the 4d object. And we all know that the surface of a cube for example, is a 2d object. Thus the surface of any object is 1 below its dimension. For a 5d object, you would see just one edge of the object, which should still look like a 3d object to you. If you take a net of a cube, and find the next thing that you could see, it would be just an edge, a 1 dimensional object. So you observe 2 less than the dimension
