Steve Huston provides an in-depth exploration of artistic anatomy, focusing particularly on the structure and energy of the human nose within a portrait. He analogizes the head to a large landscape, with facial features as distinct topographical elements-valleys and mountains-that contribute to the overall form. Steve emphasizes the interplay between gesture and structure in drawing, linking them to the energetic flow that gives life to an artwork. His methodical approach breaks down complex concepts into comprehensible parts, illustrating how to integrate the nose seamlessly into the facial structure for both energy and anatomical accuracy.

I feel stupid for even asking, but does the analogy of training the eye really hold up in reality? I find it so hard to conceive of the eye as a muscle that can be trained, perhaps because its direct line to our brains. The idea of changing our perception through drawing sounds almost magical. Is enough practice and trust in the process really all one needs to start developing that skill? That would be really cool. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience for free, it's inspiring!

Drawing relies not only in the eye , but the hand and mind … the more you draw the more you not only see, but know and the hand becomes trained… just like a sport betters with practice

@@canalcerrado2433 I was doubtful about the sports analogy but it makes sense, I'll take your word for it. Thank you.

Dear Steve, thanks a thousand times for all these great videos. I am an artist fully invested timewise in portrait and figure drawing. However, I would like to know more about your coaching program and its costs. Is there a brochure or description so that I can determine if it fits in my budget (I wouldn't want to waste your time with a one on one call if I can't afford it). Thanks a lot!
