Sketching a bicycle is a challenge even with the dominant hand. This is really good. I just love watching you draw and and paint. You always inspire me to try something. I appreciate you allowing us to see you recover from mistakes like too much red.

Being left handed, I had struggles in school with writing in ringed binders and writing with pens that didn’t dry quickly and I would get ink all over the side palm of my hand

Made me think of how it was reversed when we stayed in UAE for awhile. They wrote from right to left and started at what seemed like the "back" of the notebook for me... Also Japanese also writes from right to left but modern times have published material that are from left-to-right

onemig00 I’ve studied Hebrew for a few years and it’s the same way. I prefer the way it writes because it feels more natural for my hand to flow.

I've always looked up to you, Teoh and you doing this challenge for SPD does not disappoint. You are amazing not just because of what you can do but what you do it for!
@lindyashford77445 жыл бұрын
Also lefthanded, you have to work differently anf start on the right of the page and work to the left, having said that Teoh, I know i could not have done anything that competent with my non-dominant right hand! I have a bit of a shaky drawing style as I have a disability myself, and can see that your wobbly lines are not too different from mine. I paint better, for some reason I control a paintbrush better than a pen. It really does reveal some of the challenges in tasks and abilities we take for granted. Newly acquired disability is very challenging, as letting go of the backstory of ability and easing into a new reality can bring a great sense of loss. Art can be great in this respect, we can work to rule or break them all, and the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Who hopefully is more forgiving than we are of ourselves. Nice work, and you did really well. Not as fluent, but still decidedly your work.

I broke my dominant arm when I was 14, and was afraid I would not be able to draw. My father said that I was the artist, not my arm. I learned about an artist who held a pen in her teeth, and another who used her feet to draw. I practiced using my non-dominant hand for several weeks. It was jittery, but acceptably artistic. Try putting your pans beside the book, and pushing toward the book when you swipe for paint into the pans. The edge of the book can stop them from sliding.

"I realized my hand is actually blocking what I can see." Welcome to the beautiful world of left handed artists! :') We do block what we write/draw with the hand so we rewrite words very often thinking we didn't write them down. We also smudge gelly inks and graphite and that's why personally I only use ballpoint pens and coloured pencils.

Great job! His bike does look like he rides on a lot of rough roads & might need a new one soon. I have a feeling if I try this I will be happy if I manage stick figures lol.

It’s a great challenge! It was interesting to hear you say that left and right had become confusing for you. A fun exercise - it’s neat to see how your style is consistent regardless of which hand you use😅. And more importantly, the sketch looks great! Which just goes to show that in painting, expression is far more important than exactness. So art can be available to everyone, regardless of the barriers we’re working with.

I had to do this myself due to surgery on my thumb joint December 2017. I started with coloring with crayons then moved on to watercolor then finally sketching. It takes a lot of concentration. I’m thankful I can use my dominant hand again . 😃

When I was much younger, in my teens, I would say, I wrote with my left hand. But, it would be a mirror image of what it would be if I had written with my right hand. Now, I can't seem to do it even when I try. I have used my left hand to paint landscapes, primarily evergreen trees. I have even painted with both hands at the same time. That was quite a challenge.

Good practise both for hand and brain ;) Learn you to see a little more concentrated on what you create. Also free you upp from drawing habits. Many of the great artist is saying in their old age "I have to start over again from the beginning to free me".

The pen-nib. if it is fountain pen, it is the right-hand nib, and when you try the non-dominant hand, it will be really funny. (just like if you use your RH to sketch with a left-hand nib)
