Man, I felt so sorry for you listening to your eye problems! It's tough growing up with a parent who has weird medical beliefs. As someone who has a condition called Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension, I get swelling on my optic nerves that severely screwed up my vision and gives me terrible migraines. My last eye doctor told me I'm on the cusp of being legally blind because of it, but thankfully we got the condition under control before that could happen. Also, I'm extremely lucky it doesn't affect my art! Being active daily helped me so much when it came to getting it under control, so remember to take breaks, walk, and drink plenty of water Cosmic! 💪💪

I want to thank you for your chatty videos because I often watch them either at work (they help me focus) or while drawing at home (they keep me company). Also this video was timely because I've been dealing with a pinched nerve that's causing tingling and numbness in my drawing hand. I do find that my hand pain has lessened while I draw because I've loosened up my grip on my pencil. Also I started propping up my sketchbook while I draw which not only helps with the back/neck pain, it helps me draw more proportionately.

I also occasionally get pain in me knees, back and neck from hunching over to draw. I combat this with Jiu-Jitsu, soccer, and lots of forest walks. Staying healthy mentally and physically is super important to maintain being an artist...or just being at all! Thanks for the beautiful art video ❤💖💗

Your are so right about the exercising thing. Yoga helps my health immensely. My joints feel better. The muscles supporting my back strengthened, helping a problem area of mine. And my posture improved. And it definitely is a general mood booster. I think the key is we all need to find the exercise routine that fits each of us. And your story about your vision and the crappy glasses made me cringe. I worked for decades as a optician (the person who fits glasses) and what your are describing sounds like induced prism. It's when the optical center (the part of the RX that needs to be right in front of your eye) is off. It can cause double vision, head aches and generally off vision. Even with a correct RX. This is something that a lot of newer opticians don't always know and doctors don't often think about it because their specialty isn't fitting glasses to people. Your intermittent problems with the double vision in your glasses and the fact that contacts fix the issue makes me think that may be the problem. If it's your eyes... having a prism (think of one of those pyramids that bend light into a rainbow) put into your glasses, which is what one of your doctors evidentially suggested, may solve the double vision. Sorry if that was useless rambling about what you already know. I just thought I'd share just in case it might help. I could definitely be completely wrong.😸 In any case I'm glad you found something (contacts) that work for you. Thanks for sharing, though I don't comment often, I always enjoy listening to your thoughts and watching your process.

Thanks so much for sharing this info - it is VERY reassuring to hear it from a professional!!! I'm 100% convinced that it was the problem. It has been about 4 years since this problem was fixed, and I've never experienced anything like that since. While I recently had to wear glasses for a few weeks to let my eye heal from an ulcer, I didn't experience double vision with them (new glasses I got recently, they were properly fitted I would assume! xD). It's unfortunate that there's a gap in knowledge there... very strange though, because I went to multiple people and none of them even considered this possibility or asked me what I typically wear (glasses or contacts etc.) I appreciate that you enjoy listening to my thoughts as well, very happy to hear that
@sandyb4693 Жыл бұрын
@@CosmicSpectrumArt Yeah, you would think that someone would have thought of that possibility with your glasses. The unfortunate thing (at least where I worked) is that the newer opticians were trained with the bare minimum knowledge to get them working. Most (especially my manager) weren't interested in learning anything more. They felt they 'knew it all' with just that basic knowledge. I found that very frustrating. I'm glad you got the glasses sorted out. And ulcers are *awful* and can be extremely painful. I'm glad your eye is better.

sadly true. I remember I had this abrupt realization many years ago that doctors are just regular people and their competence levels vary just as much as any other profession pff😬which is to say that some of them are not good at their job. But thank you! I am also massively relieved that got fixed xD

I'm so glad you mentioned how physical exercise helped you because this is something that alot of artists, and ppl in general, don't realize. muscle weakness can cause chronic pain. Have you ever tried those silicone sleeves or squishy sleeves on your pen or stylus for your finger pain? I have a similar problem with my index finger and they help the pain go away, but mine is more like a skin irritation issue I think. Your eye story is soooo crazy. I did not expect that solution.Your art is mesmerizing and I really love watching you draw!

You actually convinced me to get up and try yoga which I haven’t in years, lol! I avoid working out because, at least weight lifting, made me lose weight. I wanna give yoga a try again, I’ve marked it on my calendar and everything. I didn’t realize how out of shape I was, that was so hard!! My wrists are the least strong, so hopefully this helps 🙏🏻

The double vision is probably strabismus! I have the exact same symptoms, it's caused by one of your eyes not aligning correctly on the object you're looking at. We always see two images but our brains merge them together, so when your eyes are not aligned your brain can't merge the images like it usually does. It's worse when the object is far away or when you're tired. I'm really surprised that your doctors didn't know because it's quite common and well documented. I'm glad to hear that it went away! Since it is related to the eyes muscles, you can fix it in the early stages by training them to make them stronger, like any muscle. Mine only got worse because I ignored it for too long, and now I have to wear the glasses prisms things (which is only a bandage solution like you said) or get surgery. I think mine was caused by always looking at things close to me like screens and never far away, but yours could indeed be because of a bad prescription. The symptoms can come back with age, stress, etc, so now you know what it is and I hope it will help you if it does!

I think another big part of exercise is you need to want to do it and enjoy it, I really hated sport when I was younger because it was very competitive and it didn't encourage me to do well. so you need to enjoy yourself while doing it or you wont really stay committed to becoming more healthy.
@CosmicSpectrumArt Жыл бұрын
Yess that's a really good point! goes to show it's really pointless to try and force people into doing certain things. I've never been interested in sports myself due to potential injury. I know that sounds kinda crazy but I was always paranoid of hurting my hand or wrist because I was so obsessed with drawing from a young age... but I find that I really enjoy workouts in a controlled environment because they're predictable and safe 😂 I can see how this is why some people probably hate the gym and find it boring. Super important to be able to enjoy yourself for sure

I had a similar inconsistent double vision thing growing up! They talked about putting prisms in my glasses to try and fix it, but it was too inconsistent for that. I ended up just doing a bunch of exercises consistently for a few years and now I only get it if I've been reading or drawing or staring at something close to me (usually my phone) for too long.

@javigomezlozano8185well aesthetic is a bit of a broad term, but it basically means a group of certain genres/art/pictures/colors that are satisfying or pleasing to the eye. That’s how I see it personally, but I recommend going to the “Aesthetic Fandom Wiki”, it’s fun to look around in and you can find a bunch of aesthetics that you might like😊

honestly.. it was pretty bad hahah. One of the many (sad and) hilarious by-products of that was developing a phobia of my photo being taken, because i couldn't focus on the lens and thought it would make me look cross eyed. so the only solution was to cover one of my eyes with hair 😂😂 my god, i'm so happy i don't have to do that weird shit anymore lolllll

@CosmicSpectrumArt Жыл бұрын
I have heard that from others! I'm considering it tbh... only thing is I do have very dry eyes, and I head lasik can make that even worse. I've been getting some ads recently about some semi-recent procedure where they insert a micro contact into your eyeball and if your vision changes down the line you can actually replace it or remove it. I'm liking the sound of that but... also horrified at the though of having my eyes sliced 😂💀

Most artists have wrist and finger problems because they don't know how to hold the pencil. My wrist aches looking at you draw. The death grip, the flicking of the wrists, the pressure on the paper, no wonder your hand hurts. It's a recipe for carpal tunnel
@CosmicSpectrumArt Жыл бұрын
bruh if you're gonna take that tone you'd better provide an actual example of 'how to hold a pencil'. I've been drawing almost every day for like 23 years now and I have never had wrist pain. I have pain in one finger joint when I draw for longer than 5-6 hours in a row, I think i'm gonna be alright ;)

@@CosmicSpectrumArt Check out drawabox by uncomfortable on KZbin. he has an introduction tutorial on holding the pencil and drawing from the shoulder. Just because you're young doesn't mean you'll never experience serious injuries. You're already complaining about pain. Stop it before it gets worse
@CosmicSpectrumArt Жыл бұрын
@@snowpanther7076 I checked out the your recommendation just to give your hubris the benefit of the doubt, but found no new information there. I actually do hold the pen correctly using the 'dynamic tripod' grip. I know how to draw from the shoulder. You (probably) don't know that drawing from the shoulder has limitations and specific utility, and it is not suitable for drawing smaller images and fine details that require a lot of short small and precise strokes. It is more suitable for larger loose sketching, making controlled straight and long lines, and of course utilizing the multiple edges of a pencil or a piece of charcoal. Drawing with a fine pen is not the same, especially at the scale I do it at. If you're somehow trying to show concern i guess I appreciate the thought, but you just come off accusatory and poorly informed. 🤷♀I'm not even complaining. I am sharing solutions to my ailments for a reason....... and the reason is that I SOLVED them. You'd be insane to think that a person can go through life doing a very specific and extremely repetitive activity without experiencing any ailments at all.
@snowpanther7076 Жыл бұрын
@@CosmicSpectrumArt You seem to assume that I don't draw and that I don't draw small or often or haven't drawn for long. The wrist flicking that I've seen you do in multiple videos is exactly what causes a lot of problems in both artists and gamers. You're also assuming that I'm criticizing for the sake of criticizing without considering the fact that I am speaking from experience. You say you've solved them but just from looking at the video, I'm still seeing all the stuff I used to do thinking that everything will be fine only for it to not be. You seem to have taken this as a personal attack instead of advice from someone who also does art. You are not the only artist on KZbin. Ignore the advice if you want but assuming that everyone who criticizes you is attacking you and doesn't know what they're talking about does not make you look very smart
