Things look bluer/greyer in the distance because there's more dust and atmosphere particles between you and the object, which scatters the light and distorts the colours. The effect gets stronger if you've had several days without rain, and weaker right after a good downpour.
@ASpaceOstrich
@ASpaceOstrich Жыл бұрын
Mm. Its one of those tricks that has massive payoff in making your backgrounds look better. You make stuff further away more desaturated and tint it bluer (presumably you go for either orange or purple during sunset/night scenes, but thats a guess on my part, blue probably still works.

Actually, it's much more than that. It's called Rayleigh scattering and is acute caused by the atmosphere absorbing light. It's the same reason the sky is Azure and you have red sunsets.

The internet (or at least the artists I've seen) have done colour theory so dirty. It has always been presented to me as though it was this complex, only-an-artist-would-understand-it type of thing, and in just 14 minutes you've proven to me that, not only is it something I already knew but didn't know the name of, it's a concept anyone can grasp if *properly* explained.

I just saw a video called "Colour theory for noobs" by Flow Studio (I'm looking at it right now) and I think that is also a great video (I've watched it before)! But what makes this video better, is that it explains how to apply it to your drawings and how it can be used. 10/10

I also really like how, as some others have said, you show the examples that are "wrong". Not only does it help me know what to avoid, the other side of the coin shows interesting ways that these things could be utilized. Having one specific object or detail defy typical color theory practice could be a great way to purposefully make it feel out of place.
