Hi guys! Unfortunately, no voice over on this video, I have the flu! But I do hope you enjoy watching the process of this drawing anyway. It was a very challenging pose, the model was very foreshortened, and so it was definitely a struggle to draw 😂. But, it's all about the process, and I thought it was worth sharing! What do you think? let me know in the comments? Thanks as always for watching 😊❤

Oh, I really love this expressive and loose drawing, so well done in my eyes! How long did you draw this? I just started to read the Nicolaïdes book, feeling excited! Though I don’t know how can I spend 30 minutes just for a blind contour drawing…The examples look very quick to do. Maybe just draw really really slow…?

Hi, I found your channel by watching the video that compares compressed and vine charcoal. I recently gave my art supplies away to concentrate on charcoal. I don't feel comfortable holding the stick like you do but that will come with time. I don't know if it is the lighting but as I watch your videos i'm right in the room with you. You give a great presentation and I learn from each one. Don't forget to get flu shot every year, hope you are OK. Thanks.

Hi David, thank you so much for this comment! I really appreciate hearing this, it's very encouraging to me, and helps me to keep going with these uploads!! Yes, the way you handle your materials will definitely change over time as you develop more expression and learn how to push the material to say what you want. It shouldn't feel forced or uncomfortable. Delighted you found this channel, hope to hear more from you. Thanks for watching :)

Hi Siobhan, sorry you have the flu. Hope you are feeling better soon! Thanks again for making these videos. So beautiful and instructive! Question (I know, I seem to have endless questions)! You draw hands so well, this is a problem area for me. In this drawing the hand is drawn quite large. This larger scale hand is a little easier to draw for me but I have noticed that when you are drawing a full figure drawing where the hand is drawn on a smaller scale you do so well with it. I have a harder time of it. Seems like I draw the fingers too big and thick. Just doesn’t look right. Any helpful suggestions for me? Thanks!

Hi Rolf! Sorry for the late reply here. The question of hands is really common, and in fact it's something I've struggled to draw for many years. My approach now is to simply focus on "Drawing" the shadow shapes around the hand. This seems to help me to get down the information for the hand pose, without reducing the hand to a block with cylinders, or bad shapes. Drawing the shadow areas allows a sense of the hand to come through with more naturalness because i'm not imposing what i think the fingers should look like etc. Then, if I have time, I'll concentrate on the knuckles and joints that are visible. I really hope this makes sense!! It's just my approach, so it might not make any sense to you, and I've avoided making a "tutorial" on the matter. But I know that it can also be helpful to visualize the hand as a block for the palm, with simple shapes for fingers, it that helps you then definitely work with that.

It's Conté a Paris Sepia ... hope that helps? I guess it's conte in a pencil form, and the color is sepia, but don't know much more beyond that except that I love the brand Conte a Paris and I use a range of different pencils from them. Let me know if that helps, or if you have other questions? Thanks for watching! glad you liked it 😊❤

Hi Siobhan. I subscribed quite some time ago, during covid I think. Usually when I subscribe to someone's channel I get notifications when there's a new posting. I don't think I've eve received one from you and have to always check in to see if you have a new one. It would be nice to know when you have new videos up. Thanks.

Nancy, that's such a huge pity, i'm sorry! Just check : make sure that you clicked on the "bell" icon under the title of the video, it's the one next to the subscribe button. When you click on it, then you need to click "ALL" and that might help to get notifications. I wish there was something i could do about that, but it's purely a KZbin algorithm issue, i guess they just don't show you my videos i don't know why!! 😭When I get my mailing list up and running, I'll make sure to send you a notification that way each time I publish a video. If you are keen, let me know and I'll add you to the mailing list?
