Hey Steve! Glad to see you on the Tubes again. I enjoyed seeing how you handled this one. Architecture done loose is a challenge. I've been trying to shed my super tight and technical illustration past on buildings for a more accessible plein air style. I'm still working on those Smoke on the Water chords LOL! Slight proportion shifts in a sketch like this don't matter much in my opinion. It's a location vibe and an impression. Well done!

Hiya Steve, I've been traveling through Arizona/Montana/New Mexico/Utah and Colorado for the past 10 days for a show opening and to gather reference, and so have been out of touch. I didn't see your comment until just now. Anyhoo, I'm glad to be back and will be doing more of these sketching videos in between my longer painting videos. I hear you about trying to loosen up, it's a challenge for sure. When illustrating, I made my living doing airbrush paintings (before moving to Photoshop and digital painting), and you know how tight and technical those can be, grin. I hope all is well with you and that you're getting out to paint some! Come visit when you need to get away! ~S.

Quite amazing!!, so enjoyable to watch you create. I did learn a couple of things, as I always do from your videos. Mine never come out quite like yours, but I keep trying. Thank you 🙏🏼, and I look forward to another fabulous drawing from you. ❤

Excited to see something come up from one of my favorite channels. Nice, well founded principles demonstrated so the view can understand.

Thanks @karensliwinski1243 , I'm glad you got some tidbits that help. Really, it's all about being present and training your eye to see distances between objects. Beyond that, it's just pencil mileage. The more you do it, the more you will improve! If I can do it, you can do it. =0)

Thanks! Good stuff. Trying to get into drawing at a later age and this is inspirational. And, Smoke on the Water is the only thing I can play on the guitar. :)

Really amazing drawing!! how do you scan it at the end????
@SteveAtkinsonFineArt

Hey there, thanks for the thumbs up! I have a scanner built into my printer and use it to scan my drawings that are small enough to fit onto the scanner bed. I scan through Photoshop, but I could just as easily scan through the Epson Software that comes with the printer/scanner. If my drawing is too large for the scanner, I take a photo of it using my camera, or phone, trying to get it as squared up as I can when taking a picture. Hope that helps and draw on!
