Dr. I know this comment is a bit delayed, but I finally was able to listen to this story in it's entirety. I have to say I really did enjoy it. You were able to do all the character parts so well, and tell the story as if I were there as it were happening as well as the description of the creature. Well done my dear doctor.

My company was closing down. And it was just me and 2 managers left to finish closing the company for good. I found an unused room in the back of an unused portion of a warehouse. It was CHOCKED full of things that wasnt on any inventory. So we went in to take inventory, contacting the owner saying what we found. The guy just said throw it all away. There was an entire apartment full of things. Tables chairs bed an entire kitchen stuff desks computer stereos microwave sofas and chairs. We split it up and took it all home. Better than sending it to the landfill.

Ok you better cleanse that stuff both physically and spiritually before you take it anywhere near your home. Did you let him know that you would be taking some instead, maybe he had a good reason for saying toss it. Like infestation of mites, roaches, rats, etc.

Why didn't the agents come in with bleach? And also why wasn't that some of the 1st info the letter writer provide to Ray. This cldv been a good story, maybe even great. I totally dig the premise. But it reminds me of the ridiculous horror flicks from the 70's & 80's where the victims constantly make stupid decisions that can only lead to death

Yeah, I'm thinking I would keep a super soaker full of bleach if I thought this might happen.
@SmokeyMountainSuccubus
@SmokeyMountainSuccubus 5 жыл бұрын
Could be the agents don't know. The people that sent the info to Ray clearly didn't do it with the consent of the company, also the paper mentions the creature is especially vulnerable to bleach during stage five. Maybe before then it's far less effective. I do agree there are plot holes and the main character is a bit dumb, but I personally think it's solid enough to be a good story at least.

Dragonfly B!tch Bauer literally was thinking a lot of the same. The ideas are wonderful. There are definitely some unrealistic writing choices which are totally excusable in a genre like this. I thought the bleach one too like wtf why not tell this dude immediately.

They were only going in for Ray they probably didn’t think they would even come in contact with the creature but it still was stupid not to bring any bleach

However sweet lord did he take forever to get to his computer and begin printing out the instructions. Although if it was me, my ass would've done been out the door (yes, you read that right, I'd take the bullet versus dealing with a species containment breach)! This was such a delight to listen to; you did such a marvelous job narrating it! X3 X3

Sorry for having left you folks hanging, but it's only right to give you an update. I turned out I did NOT contract a terrible disease from the specimen. In fact, I had something in common with it: a pre-existing allergy to bleach. Normally I don't even think about this, since I don't use the stuff -- which was part of the reason I thought it was weird for Sal to keep so much of it in the basement. Anyhow, some of the bleach had splashed on me, which did raise a nasty blister once those bumps merged, but that was it. If I had contracted the disease, it would have created a sunken, gray-green patch, not bumps or blisters, followed by a nasty cough as my lungs were attacked, uncontrollable diarrhea as my intestines were attacked, and terrible hallucinations once the brain-blood barrier was breached -- and it would go downhill rapidly from there. These were not my symptoms, so after a period of quarantine, I was released. Sal's evidence released on the Internet had the effect you would expect: No one believed it. I think it actually won a "best creepypasta" award of some sort, and there was talk of making it into a video game, but her company was able to quietly discourage that. You might think she would be a target of retaliation from her company. That's what she expected, certainly. However, they were shutting down that particular "product" anyhow -- they had something else much more "effective" and controllable. More importantly, a different division of the same company was impressed by her initiative and resourcefulness more than by her "disloyalty" ... and they had a job at a remote site where initiative and resourcefulness were necessary, and where loyalty is guaranteed by the nature of the problem. I can't say anything more, but I can assure that the site is very, very, very remote. She normally works there on a six months on, six months off basis now, though she did take about 2 years for pregnancy and maternity leave when our daughter Ingrid was born. (I never met our daughter's namesake, and all Sal says was that she used to work with her, but there seems to be a sad story behind the name.) As for me, I've been trying to cope as best I can. I still have nightmares from the experience narrated above, but the therapy (provided by the company) has helped. Sal's "remote" deployment has also caused problems, but she says she should be finished with it by the time Ingrid is old enough to start asking questions. Until then, we keep plugging along, making do the best we can.

Only a close range lower caliber firearm would create some splash. Any rifle round (including a 5-7) would not create any significant splash back and be perfect for dispatching many critters. Out in the sticks a .22 is good for small critters, while a larger caliber is needed for bigger predators.
