I like to use the buzzard from the CEO menu when escaping from the jail as it feels a little bit better against the cops bullets. At the start of the mission I do not go to the police helicopter straight away, I go to where you exit the jail and park my buzzard close to the gate then start the mission.

For those that have claimed the cypher and the other two cars from the salvage yard and have lost the vanity plate. This happened to me and I got a very quick response from Rockstar Support. Basically this is known and they have a fix ready but they told me the fix will be included in the patch with a future title update.
