Great video! After being on the keto diet for almost two years and losing over 36 pounds, in Jan of last year came down with a critical case of Covid! I was put on steroids to keep me alive. Gained all the weight back plus lost most of my hair. In late Oct. I came down with a nasty case of shingles! 2022, not a good year for me. 😢. I’m back on the keto train and I’ll stick with it to get my health back. I’m 76, and if I can do it, so can you!

I started the Keto lifestyle almost 2 years ago to control my T2D. In the first four months of a strict Keto program, my a1c went from 13.4 down to 6.7! By the end of the first year, I had lost 70 pounds and my a1c was down to 5.9. I switched to low carb 4 months ago and have been able to maintain my weight and drop my a1c down another .2. I don't know who's happier about the progress--me or my doctor.

I was on Keto and absolutely loved it, then I became pregnant and changed to lower carb and kept my weight in check through the whole pregnancy. I went back to keto after the newborn stage but then saw from the Diet Doctor this probably isn’t the best idea when breastfeeding due to ketones be transferred in breast milk. I am back lower carb but I really do miss the keto days! Once I stop breastfeeding I will likely commit to this again as the crystal clear thinking was incredible.

I also came off the wagon in December, but I was ok with that as I knew it was a temporary situation. I am now back on my usual low-carb diet with time-restricted eating of 18/6. I do not closely monitor my carbs, rather I just make sure I have cut out as much processed food as possible and I do not eat sweet things at all. I feel really good with this method and I feel healthy and fit. I am 67 and feeling really young with lots of energy. When I started this regime early last year I was 7kg overweight, now I hover around my ideal weight by around 1kg. Thanks for your very informative videos GB.

I took my eye off the ball completely this December and have gained significant weight as a result (as I knew I would). I'm now back on low carb (with odd drops into ketosis) and am reversing said gain. Weight/life balance is just as important as work/life balance imho.

Couldn’t agree more; another great video. I have joined Dan’s latest carbdodging challenge as I am seriously in need of help. I have tried Keto over the past 17 years and after losing and gaining several stones I am now almost a stone heavier than when I started. Don’t misunderstand me. I am in no way holding a ketogenic diet responsible. My downfall is all my own doing. I am either in or out. When I am in, nothing can stop me. However when I fall of the wagon (here I totally relate to everyone else who has fallen off, been hit / run over by the waggon) all hell breaks loose. My biggest challenge is socialising or the dreaded two weeks holiday😮. I cannot get my head around eating (and drinking) sensibly while away in a fab part of the world sitting under the sun, enjoying great food and sipping the odd cocktail. So I feel that this is a whole new chapter in my dieting life where I will be educated by an expert in all things Keto and finally learn how to have some self control. Can’t wait to get going.

I actually just went on a vacation a while back and decided to get way more in control of what I eat on holiday, especially how I drink. The whole purpose of vacation for me ISN'T totally gluttony and self indulgence, and I enjoy a pretty active vacation. So eating foods that are too rich and drinking a lot actually ruins a vacation more than it enhances it for me. Now, all I have to do is figure out how to eat and drink more normally while on holiday. One way I can do that is stay at a place with a kitchen. Even if I'm not really cooking the same way I do at home, having the option to do a simple dinner or make sandwiches for lunch makes a huge difference. I also like going to grocery stores in places I travel...or markets, depending on where I am. Convincing family I'm traveling with that buying quality local ingredients and cooking at an air bnb is challenging though, so many want to eat and drink out 🤷♀️.

It did a fantastic job of controlling appetite. Well I’ve now gained half of it back and I’m not sure yet what my long-term plan is. I definitely lost muscle mass during my diet but recently have noticed I’m gaining it back. My lipids are not as good as before my keto diet, but still within normal ranges. I think I’m going to try a low-carb diet with less fat than on keto because that may be more compatible for family members, but if I’m unsuccessful then I have the confidence I need to go back on keto. Thank you for this video because it provides the info I need because it offers two options. No longer am I afraid of dieting because I know I can do it.

I’m currently in the 8 week challenge, folks. Dr Dan is like gold. Dr Dan, totally agree re restrictions can be challenging to migrate especially for the on the go people that do have to eat out at times. Carnivore is best for this though as it’s easy to eat the protein and throw away the bun or insist they hold the bun. Many fast food restaurants are not always accepting of this including McD’s. But again they are seeking the true junk fooder, not the healthy group. I did the Lion diet version of Carnivore (beef, salt, water) for 18 months due to Mikhaila Peterson. That type of restriction definitely caused me to falter in 2022. I’m doing the alternating Keto days and Carnivore days with you and seeing how that goes for the 8 weeks. Thanks for all the videos and support you provide!

Keto completely fits my life style of being single and work at home. My fridge contains salmon packages 200g (frozen), steak packages 200g and butter. To spice things up, I sometimes buy "pasture raised" eggs, "pasture raised" liver wurst and "grass fed" hard cheese. These are all my favorite foods. This keeps me 100% in ketosis (I assume). I only need to watch not eating to much of the 50% curd/quark/"Topfen" as it does contain some sugar, but up to 125g per meal should be fine (4-5g lactose). - If I had other stuff in the fridge or cubbard, I would probably eat to much of that and fall out of ketosis.

Great video, I've been on varying degrees of keto for about 3 years now I think or at least I started off low carb then glided into keto as I learned more about what to avoid eating. I was interested in Dr Gundry's work about avoiding certain plants and using an 'eating window' then supposedly you could eat certain carbohydrates so I tried that about 6 months ago and I found it almost impossible to stick to the eating window and I was getting to be constantly hungry as well as 3 kg heavier by the end of 2022. As you say, different things work for different people and that didn't work for me although it was only moderate carbs and not carbs all the way! After a series of small illnesses and a horrific migraine I went back onto strict keto in January and I've already dropped 1.6kg in 2 weeks and am starting to feel better, plus I'm naturally only wanting 2 meals a day and no issues keeping to an eating window of 8 hours. So, my experience is keto works for me. I'm happy to have tried Dr Gundry's method, even though it didn't work well for me I still learned from the experience.

Would be very interested to see a video on adrenaline spikes in the first 2-3 weeks of ketosis. I find doing keto easy, but after a while adreanline 'feels' unbearable (constantly on, big rushes) so I have to stop again. I wonder if this is just a transatory side effect, but after 2-3 days it's impossible to continue and find out.

Going cold turkey right into keto is a good approach to save time. But for others maybe going step by step is easier. I started about 15 months ago and couldn't for my life imagine how to eat less than 300g of carbs per day. Then learning about the options, I went low carb, but couldn't imagine going less than 60g of carbs a day. And the carnivores were all lunatics. Then I went keto and carnivore and now I can't imagine how I would eat more than 25g per day of carbs. Just took about 9 months to go there, not forcing anything on myself, just progressing into new things.

Cleaned up my act in late August and went strict carnivore(and quit drink) for 4 months including a 7 days fast in October. By xmas weighed 75kg and lots of cycling.... Let it all go again during 2021 (needed a hernia op, got overcautious with post operation worries) and hit 91kg by Feb of 2022... Now, I haven't gone keto/carnivore, just (low-ish)carbs when I want to as I'm cycling again. The thing is my Strava times for routes I did when I was carnivore were absolutely crap compared to now, and that's carrying 12kg more as I'm currently 87kg, haven't drunk anything for 10 months, and as much as I'd like to get back to ketovore, I'm not sure what it may do to my cycling...will eliminating carbs in the search for weight loss lead my times back to late 2020 times where maybe "fat adaptation" was nowhere near as good as utilising glucose?? The first 12 weeks 3 years ago were the easiest but cycling is my new fix and I'm not giving that up...(and I've never felt better in my entire adult life since stopping drinking I have to say, maybe the extra weight is a good bit of muscle, who knows... I was doing 1hr52m for 43km in Dec 2020 and that's down to 1hr32m this year on carbs and much heavier!)

Hi - thanks very much for your clearly explained video. I have been on Keto for about a year, not for weight loss but because I feel at ease in my body and healthier. I would be very grateful if you could answer these questions because I just can't find the definitive answers anywhere. On some days my intake of carbs go up and I would say I go into the low-carb range. How would this affect my being in ketosis? Would I have to be in the low-carb range for a few days to knock myself out of ketosis or is just going into the low-carb range during one day enough to knock myself out of ketosis? If I fluctuate between the ketosis range of carbs and the low-carb range and I go back and forth, is this OK for my health? I would be so grateful if you could respond - many thanks for your help.

I've been doing keto for over 18 months...lost 40 lbs. I have adapted it as my lifestyle...I'm keto. I have found, as one living in a glucose-driven-society, that I eat non-keto during certain seasons. For example, I eat sugar and carbs: special occasions (birthdays), vacations/family gatherings, and specific holidays. This means I did high carb Thanksgiving week, and my 2 week Christmas vacation (gained 10 pounds... don't worry it does come off fast when you get back to normal on keto). I tallied it all up (cheat days), and last year I was actively keto for 84% of the year. So it is possible to eat other foods you want to enjoy (bananas and oranges are fun) that you forsake most of the time, and still thrive on the ketogenic "diet" (lifestyle), and benefit from it. I will in conclusion say that keto helps me sleep good, don't have the afternoon "slump" where you just want to sleep. I wake up refreshed, and vital. I always have energy, and hardly ever have cravings. If one wants to reap the amazing health benefits, and enjoy life more, then keto is the way to go (although low carb is doable as well...I just find keto works better for me). God bless everyone on this journey! I feel this lifestyle is a true gift from God, and I would still be so dissatisfied with my body, and health issues if it hadn't been for keto... can't say enough good things about it!

I don't understand how a doctor can not know that a keto diet is also a low carb diet. It's simply one specific type whereas the atkins diet covers most low carb diets.

I have another remark- at 02:08 you say you were obese and show a picture. But it does not look like obese. It looks like moderatly over weight, in my eyes at least.

Obese is the category between overweight and morbidly obese. When many people think of "obese" they imagine the celebrity obese people, who are all morbidly obese. Celebrity fat activists call people like us "skinny fat" and rag on us a lot for not keeping up. I have been overweight for most of my life but became obese recently, but I'm not even a plus sized person. It's actually really startling how fat a person can get before friends and family even realize you have a problem and may need help. And terrifying honestly. Being obese is awful, and frightening, but so much of pop culture says you should be ok with it. What gaslighting 😖.

I disagree about the fiber thing. I think fiber is important to feed your microbiome, which turns out to be really important. I tried to go on keto , but I found it too restrictive especially since I cook for others who are not on it. So, I was never sure if I was in ketosis or not. I suspect not. As I understand it, if you get in too much carbs when you think you're on a keto diet, you're actually on a very poor diet. I do low sugar, high fiber now. Will have dessert once a week.

I'm genuinely open minded about this, but I cannot find anyone who will offer the balanced argument of what a good quality high carb diet can do as well as what a ketogenic diet can do. Both diets work - it's just that carbs often get a blanket "carbs are bad" label - which is not true. There are good carbs (wholegrains, fruit and veg) and then there are processed bad carbs (white bread, pasta, white rice, high sugar cookies etc). People go on a keto diet for six weeks and remark at the difference....well I would say look at those people that go on a mainly fruit diet and veg diet and you will see the same remarkable difference, weight loss and with all the vitamins and benefits that fruit can bring. Both are extremes and both work - but you never see anyone who says this - it's always one or the other. Even more important is the combination of foods - not eating carbs at the same time as fats - no-one on these different videos seems to mention the importance of that either...it's always "carbs are bad" or "keto is bad"......why can't there be some balance?

Hello here I am again, I´m 55 and done both low carb and keto and intemittent fasting. But I am slow mowng to ketovore. What´s that You might say? It´s a crossorver between carnivore and keto. And It gives real satiety after segnificant weightloss. Well, as I have exsperienced the last years is that it`s challenging to do low carb when your body craves protein. So I regulate my fasting with fuelling my body with protein between fasting. It has been sustainable for my age and I love to beeing covered by science on this subject. Please @dr dan maggs podnder my beliefs and make an epidode! . It is also known as the PSMF or ProteinLeverageTheory! It works for me at my age.

I definitely think protein is something we don't talk about enough. I'm currently experimenting with a carnivore diet for 1 month! Very interesting!

I thought too much protein turns into sugar? Any thoughts... thanks 😊
