This was a good episode. Also depression looks different for different people. Be slow to judge those dealing with mental illness. Depression is more than just a feeling it's an actual sickness that needs treatment. Some people have a chemical imbalance that causes depression; it's more than just something bad happened to that person. Another type of depression is situational or circumstantial, but that can b very serious as well. Some people definitely don't choose depression and deep sadness.
@ashleyrp20072 жыл бұрын
Scientists have done studies of a depressed brain and a “normal” brain and they look different. You’re right. It’s a chemical imbalance and you can’t just think positively to get out of it

You said this so perfectly, i was coming on here to comment this very thing. There’s so much misconception, I hate how it’s always the same narrative surrounding depression and people never dive into what’s really going on in the brain. It’s so much deeper than “thinking positive”.
@Truthspeakerrrrrr2 жыл бұрын
The only way to have a chemical imbalance inside of your body is because of the foods your consuming and the things you’re using on and in your body. Once you stop putting all those man made chemicals, dead animals, high processed foods, sugar, salt etc your mind will be clear of all the BS. Your gut and what you put into it is directly connected to your brain.
@BudgetWithBey2 жыл бұрын
I’m happy you said this because Drea response to Lex about this BOTHERED ME ! How do you get on here and talk about going to therapy and “Better Help” but used that same mouth to say people basically chose to be sad, depressed and anxious ?!? Like make it make sense. I usually agree with them but this very much bothered my spirit and now I look at her differently. Just because something can happen to you and you can shake it off, doesn’t mean someone who can’t cope just as well is weak. Like ma’am, POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION IS REAL. MOMMY BLUES IS REAL and it’s not something women just up and chose to be after pregnancy.

Among a few other factors but This is the Main thing. Nor is it as polarized as Masculine = Man or Feminine to the woman. A man can possess empathy and intuition which are “feminine” traits. Because she was in the presence of a MAN (in character). She understood her position and sat within the natural submission. She was actually sitting closer to him, kind of like a wife; and in a way- it made her co-host look like she was in her own space representing her own energy it no longer looked like a triangle conversation. She was also highly attracted to him for what he brought to her mind; you see how when HE (not her co-host) asked her about the song she got a bit quirky? It was because the song along alone didn't represent the same frequency that they've been on. Ain't no hiding that real energy!

Now sociopaths usually develop their ways from a toxic house hold or some type of trauma in their childhood. I think you all should educate yourselves on what depression is. It’s not an emotion, it’s a clinical mental health disorder. It’s a chemical imbalance in the brain. As a therapist who studies neuroscience, the brain scans of a depressed person looks completely different from someone who isn’t depressed- so there is evidence that depression directly impacts the brain. Don’t be so “woke” that you make ignorant comments. Just like nobody chooses to have physical illnesses like cancer, lupus, or diabetes, nobody chooses to have mental health illnesses like bipolar, depression, or schizophrenia.
@uniquatiana38232 жыл бұрын
I don’t think they meant choosing to have depression, mental health, etc. It is a choice on how you react to it. “Woe is me” attitude, sulking, negative talk vs. therapy and actually working on getting out of that state in your own way. You do not have to stay there and just be labeled as depressed. You can do something about it to change your habits and mindset but it is ultimately your choice to do so.

All of the things you listed are a result of one eating dead animals, highly processed foods, man made chemicals. No one is born with anyone of those things. Some but not all. Most who have those it grew from the things they consumed althroughout their life.
@RobandSijay2 жыл бұрын
@@uniquatiana3823 but your reply alone says you don’t really understand depression. As someone who once was depressed all of that sounds good but to a person in a depressed state “putting on a happy face” and just “faking it and think happy thoughts” don’t come that easy. It’s a dark cloud over you even on the brightest day and you cry because you want to feel better but can’t, even after doing using the tools learned in therapy. It takes time and then there are triggers. Triggers that you don’t know you have until they trigger you into a place of depression. Allow people the time to heal and stop with the “just feel better already” attitude because a lot of people are trying. When they reach out just know they’ve fought themselves internally already so maybe the best thing to do is be an ear and not say anything.
@MissKendra152 жыл бұрын
@Amman S. lol I’m talking to the people in the podcast who made the ignorant comment, not the other commenters. The comment section was created for us to comment, correct? Not sure how you missed that. My comment is based on scientific evidence. So, whether you agree or not, what I stated are facts. It doesn’t matter if you feel as though it isn’t bright lol. It’s SCIENCE. It’s a fact that depression is a mental health disorder. The DSM5 tells us that. It’s a fact that a depressed person’s brain scan looks differently than one that isn’t. If you don’t care for my comment, feel free to move on with life… not that serious. Be blessed, love.

I think that there is a difference from being sad and being depressed. Depression and Anxiety are illnesses it aint necessarily something you just wake up and choose to feel. It's literally an unexplainable , overwhelming surge of emotions. Now some folks do be dragging it . But i know folks who have had everything given the them or just been blessed in amazing ways and they still suffer form anxiety or depression. I guarantee if you ask anybody who suffers from real depression and anxiety who take medicine or has to go to therapy on a daily basis will tell you they would love to just wake up and like " im gone be happy today" and be happy. it just a tad bit more than that

Hey y’all love the show! I’ll be honest and say as a mental health therapist I couldn’t finish the episode because of a comment made pertaining to depression that didn’t sit quite right with me. It’s a little insensitive, ignorant, and dismissive to make the claim that people “choose” to be depressed and can solve their depression by just getting up and doing something. While there are certain behaviors that can help to alleviate depressive symptoms, this is a lot easier said than done and many people who suffer from depression absolutely would if they could. It’s a lot deeper than getting off your ass and the message you all put out in the episode didn’t account for changes to actual brain functioning that often occur with individuals struggling with depression. Putting out information like this can be very dangerous for people actually living with this very serious mental illness as well as further perpetuate the stereotypes that people with depression are lazy and have a “woah is me” mindset. This won’t stop me from listening or being a pour minds supporter, as I’m sure you meant well. It would just be beneficial for you all to be more mindful of the information you put out using your platform. Wishing you all continued success!

I don't think ppl choose to be depressed or upset. Life hits you hard you can't turn around and lie to yourself and say "yeah I'm going thru hell but I'm the happiest I've ever been" that's not reality. Jesus knew what he came down here to do, but still before he was crucified he poured his eyes out to God super emotional because he knew what was coming. Now if you decide to stay in that place of depression where you're just feeling sorry for yourself not even trying to make an effort to feel better, you playing sad music instead of positive music, etc then I believe that's a choice.

I’ve been watching 19 keys for at least 8 mnths but this is My first time watching poor minds podcast. At first I thought, wat in the world is this. Because these 2 Ladies caught me off guard by the way they talk. But after listening for a few minutes, I began to realize these Ladies are very intelligent. The way they articulate things is on another level. Also 19 keys, always thinking light years ahead which is a true example of a leader. Great show guys Ima watch this one at least a few times

Terrible take, I’m disappointed in Drea especially considering what her co-host is dealing with. Really a weird thing to say.

Ooohh laaaawd speak it. This the most realist conversation I've ever heard. Speaking these things in which I've been preaching/teaching for a long long time. You have to surround yourself with those whom have the same like mindset as you. In order to excel. Also having that same like understanding. This is deep.

Keys' ability to incorporate his Wisdom from years of studying so that these Attractive ladies can understand the Importance of True Knowledge & Fact is Important for Our future existence as a community. Let's chalk up the Silliness (the long-gated pronunciation of words with over exaggerated hand gestures) displayed as a defense mechanism to what has been programmed into Black Women into thinking that this way of expressing themselves is somehow cute ; instead of what is actually being said @ that moment ... as something We can All work on. The Patience along with the Respect exemplified by the GoD, was Impressive ! This is a Blueprint of the necessary teaching for a lot of Our confused women how not to get fully defensive when a lesson is being taught about how we are to deprogram ourselves from society's misrepresentation of who We really are as a people. This is How you Control a Room. PS.. I hope this observation wasn't received as a explanation in 'Script'. Just the facts, without all the Extra. 😉 Peace to the GoD for staying Focused.

I believe everything he saying bc I just got a new mentor and some of the same verbiage and conversation has been held between me and her and it makes so much sense. I have even felt the elevation being around somebody like her, most of these comment proving his point wholeheartedly when you can listen to the message and adapt to understand.
