Man, I've listened to this at least 10 times in the last 24 hours. Especially enjoyed the first demo, the bit that really got me is where, at 1:10, the melody seemed to de-tune for a second creating an 'off colour' yet very exciting surprise; what a gorgeous effect. Tried to play it back several times to see if I could figure out what was going on musically in that few seconds, to no avail.

you remixed mauro picotto. very nice. Which one do you like more? NYX or Mother 32? I want to get my first analog synth but can't decide between those two.
@RemixSample7 жыл бұрын
I would start with the Mother 32, I say start because I haven't met anyone that just bought one synth and then stopped. But yes the Mother 32 is a great synth that is easy to work with. The NYX is cool but it's also weird to work with. You can mimic the reverb on the NYX with software like Valhalla Shimmer.

Great demo. But what I cant understand is that thing making those noises by itself or is it connected to a keyboard or something. Can it just connect to a mixer?
@jarls58907 жыл бұрын
You need to connect it to something! You need to connect its sound output to a mixer or PC sound interface. BUT to play the instrument you need one of the following: A midi keyboard or synth that has the capability to function as a midi keyboard (midi-key -> NyX -> Mixer) A sequencer that outputs midi or CV/Gate (Arturia Beatstep/Pro for example) (Seq -> NyX -> Mixer) A PC with a midi out port - you can then use software that outputs midi notes, Ableton Live etc. (PC/Mac -> Midi interface -> NyX -> Mixer) Hope this helps.

It sounds so beautiful, are you triggering it from a Daw?
@RemixSample7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes the melody is sent from the piano roll of FL Studio via midi. Some of the other drone type noises are triggered by the NYX itself.

Would you say this thing has enough beef when it comes to Bass? Love it for its ambient and experimental abilities but is it flexible enough in terms of bass patches etc?
@RemixSample5 жыл бұрын
Hmm well it's been a while since I used the NYX. It has a lot of bottom end but not sure if it's the best synth if you are looking to create basses. Like the Model D is an absolut beast when it comes to basses compared to the NYX imo.

Nope. :/ It only receives midi note data. You can't control any of the knobs and sliders with a midi controller unfortunately.
@davidknight7547 жыл бұрын
RemixSample it's best controlled from a modular. The envelopes/LFOs are rather short on the NYX. I was able to get much better results using the NYX mod matrix with my Eurorack. Talk about very long drones...
@RemixSample7 жыл бұрын
Hey David. I'm curious how you use those external envelopes/LFO's to the NYX. There are no mod inputs on the NYX so what do you do to create those long drones? I can't figure out how to hijack the lfo so to speak.
@davidknight7547 жыл бұрын
What I've done is send a CV to the VCA input on the NYX. When you do that you bypass the VCA envelope on the NYX. If enough voltage is sent from whatever you are using, the level of the VCA rises. The NYX will drone. An example patch would be something like channel 1 in Maths in a cycle mode (LFO). Slow it down and you have a rising and subsiding drone. I typically use an attenuator after the Maths output to have a little more control over the amount of LFO or signal.

Ah got it. Thanks for the explanation I'm, gonna play around with that.

How useful is the reverb in mono?
@RemixSample6 жыл бұрын
I mean that's really up for you to decide. In this video I recorded the raw audio from the NYX and only used the internal reverb as fx. I like stereo more but you can always apply a stereo reverb to it afterwards. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lol, I've seen side by side videos, the sonic differences are fairly minor. Both versions sound amazing but the more stable oscillators, far less drift and better tuning are huge advantages of v2 Nyx and v3 Erebus. If given a choice if always pick v2 for this reason.
@jasonlogelin8986 жыл бұрын
If you are thinking of buying, don't. It may sound good here in this one video but it has 0 flexibility and the build quality is poor.

Jason Logelin what dobyou mean by no flexibility ?
@shawnsaul77596 жыл бұрын
Jason Logelin can you explain more about lack of flexibility and poor build quality?
@targetxdestroyed6 жыл бұрын
Can you elaborate on the build quality? Also, how can a dual osc, dual filter paraphonic synth with modular patch points have 0 flexibility out of curiosity? Unless you refer to the general sound of it, in which case "Nyx" is the greek Goddess of the Night, so I guess you buy this for the "of the night" sounds, which imo is what it sounds like.
@richnewman6 жыл бұрын
Disagree. The build is fanastic--metal and wood. As for flexibility, it's a synth! It does exactly what it's supposed to do: play music!
@shawnsaul77596 жыл бұрын
Jason Logelin I had to have three separate Nyx units get sent to me since the first two were in poor condition. I do think your right that there are quality control issues going on.
