I have a small issue, I made the chrome material and dragged it to the material. For your example, it started refllecting something in both work mode (looks like trees and surroundings) and render preview (some highlights), mine does completely nothing. Are there any setup issues I could have?

Which version of C4D do you use? Also: did you enter a Sky object with a HDRI material onto it?
