When I was a kid my parents put a lot of negative ideas about locks into my head. But when I was 13 or so in London, a beautiful Caribbean man who had locks down to his thighs explained them to me, explained how he made them, how he cleaned them, and let me feel them, and since then I think well cared for locks are lovely. I think as long as they’re not being used as an excuse to not maintain personal hygiene, what’s the harm?

#1 thing I thought about dreads was that the hair is so dry, smells bad and feels like straw. Probably the 1 thing I've heard about dreads is that people with dreads never wash their hair so it's oily Then I had a friend who had dreads and she asked me and another friend to help take out her dreads. So for about 10 hours we picked it SO SLOWLY so we (in our minds) didn't damage it and make her lose a lot of hair. By time we got it ALL OUT and we washed it (honestly we already played in it for 11 hours we felt the need to deep scrub her scalp for her) her hair was SO SMOOTH and way shiny!!!!!! Ironically she cried because she said she felt like she lost a huge part of her identity taking the dreads out. It was everything I never expected

@Reflectionofmedusa5 жыл бұрын
I've had mine for 7 years and they've only smelled when they haven't dried properly(twice in those 7 yeats). I'm very sensitive to the smell of mildew (I can't stand it and can smell it when other people often can't). So the only way they will smell is if they don't dry properly. If your dreads are young, usually you dont have to worry about smell until they're properly locked up (they tighten up) because then they become denser and hold more water. Apple cider vinegar rinses (I also add tea tree oil) help remove any mildew, buildup, and other nasties as well and its cheaper! I have to blow dry my dreads for 2 hours lol so I only wash them once a week but I wash my scalp every 3 days or so and just keep the water away from the ends (since the ends are older they're they're tighter than the roots). They require a lot of care but if you're committed, it's worth the journey.

Hey girl:) I just adore you. I've been wanting dreadlocks for about 20 years so always looking on KZbin and that's when I found you. Subscribed to your channels because I just love you as a person. I got some single-ended extensions from Etsy that my daughter is going to braid in so I can sort of test drive some partial dreads before I commit to the real thing. I know you go to your stylist when you get some extensions sewn in, but I found this genius video by this girl on how to easily put in single-ended extensions on existing dreads. You just take the tip and thread it through the top loop, which creates another loop...slide it up over your existing lock and pull tight. Super easy no sewing and stays in so someone with locks can just install in 2 seconds or also remove in a second. I thought that was such a neat idea so I wanted to share it with you. Also... just casually strolling through Bravo the other day for a new show and was like wait...whaaat? You! Totally binge-watched Spy Games in 2 days and you were freaking incredible on that show and did such a great job. That stuff was not easy and I was so impressed and also so proud of you. What an amazing experience!💙

Every time I see dreads I just feel like it would be more trouble than it’s worth to maintain them. I have curly hair and it only takes me 5 minutes to style it because I just put in product and let it air dry. I get migraines and my dreads are down to my lower back and honestly I can't have my hair up for more than 30 minutes because it's SO heavy that I get a migraine. Its so bad that I've considered cutting mine off after 7 years but I can't let go lol. So I just cut length off as they grow to keep them from getting too heavy. And I have thin curly hair and very little hair so if your hair is thick and dense, it'll be even worse.

Girl, I don't have dreads and I only wash my hair once a week. I color my hair frequently and it keeps my hair from fading nearly as fast.

I’m gonna be totally honest with you and say that ever since I watched your video about why you locked your hair I have been so inspired. I don’t know if this will make sense but I grew up in the church and there is a lot of judgement that goes on within the church. I wish it wasn’t that way and it seriously breaks my heart. It seems like the older generation especially seems to judge based on appearance (not the entire generation it just seems like most). After watching your video about why you got your dreads it seriously was so inspiring. I told my husband that I have the urge to dread my hair as well because I want to prove that your appearance is not as important to the judgmental people in the church as they think it is. My pastor is constantly preaching about not judging people for their looks, background, etc and I walked into the nursery to hear two older women gossiping about a girl in the church with tattoos. I’m so sick and tired of it. I know it grieves the Lord and it’s creating this huge disconnect between the older and younger generation in the church. Those were my thoughts about your dreads. You have nothing but support and love from me! Keep doing what you’re doing and let your light shine!!!

I think dreads/locks are just so heavy. They look heavy. I can't imagine the weight

A friend of mine took her locks out because she got migraines of the weight

Heavy when wet, other than that meh I don't really notice them. Hers are def thicker and longer than mine though. So jealous, they're gorgeous. They're kinda like a sponge, very light when dry heavy wet. But obvi everyone's different.

I don’t have anything against dreads I just hate not being able to run my hands through my hair and I already get really bad headaches and they’re just so heavy
@hiimjai60643 жыл бұрын
The heaviness really depends on how long or thick they are. Mine are thick and long, so they’re HEAVY. But my cousin has shoulder length ones that are much thinner and he says they’re not heavy at all. I definitely miss running my hands through my hair though.

I also only wash my hair once a week and its super healthy! My hair length is down to my butt...so when i wash it once a week...it takes me like an hour but im fine since its super healthy

I wash mine every other day cuz it gets super oily. I can't go any longer, unless I'm just be at home. Longest I've gone is 3 days, I felt disgusting n had to use a clarifying shampoo to feel clean. Dry shampoo makes my head itch so I can't use it.
@taylorpain90953 жыл бұрын
@@jodilynn4853 I used to be the same. I had to wash my hair every day but then my hairdresser said to cut back to twice a week. I had oily hair for a few weeks but it eventually sorted itself out and now my hair is so much healthier only washing twice a week. Washing your hair to much strips the oils which is why it gets oily because your scalp over produces oil. Stick it out. I know how gross it is but it’s so worth it in the end!!!

My first thoughts when I see dreads are "wow that looks HEAVY your poor lil scalp" or "I wonder what their first stages looked like and what length their hair would be if taken out lol"

I took a dreadlock course and Christina you have to check them out and watch the videos on the bird cage crocheting technique! It’s sooo awesome for dread maintenance and to keep the “lumps” in check. You might already do this I’m not sure but let me know if you want more information on it. They also sell AMAZING products for dreads as well! Your dreads are beautiful! I’ve done two sets of dreads and put in extensions for friends ❤️ I love it!
