I finally made it to my 1 Year mark! I want to thank everyone for your support, it really kept me going even when I had thoughts about cutting it. This is a very special video for me because it has pictures and videos of my first two attempts at growing dreadlocks, and music in the background produced by me which I love to make! The first dreadlock journey started back in 2011 when I was a senior in high school. I thought it would be a cool hairstyle to try out so I got twisted up and then decided to go through with it. I made it to about 1 year and 8 months on my first dreadlock journey before I got the urge to cut them. It felt like a big weight was lifted off of my shoulders although I did regret cutting it sometimes. My second attempt at growing dreadlocks was in 2015. I decided to give it another attempt and I had a pretty good set of dreadlocks going but I wanted more of a taper in the front of my dreads. I kind of already had one but I thought it could be better and that is where I went wrong. When I went to get my retwisted, I had them take out my 2nd set of locs and I asked for them to take the taper back a little and they took it back too far. I rocked like that for maybe 2 or 3 days and then I cut them myself with a pair of scissors lol. The next day I went to the barber to get a proper haircut. After that, I got one last haircut on October 1, 2015 and then I started my third set of locs in May 2016. I asked for the taper in the front again and once again, it was taken too far back for my liking. I decided to stick with it this time and let it grow back on its own. I still felt something wasn't right so I started my third set of locs over for a second time. I know this is a lot lol but I told myself if I'm gonna do this, I'm going to do it how I want it or it's going to bother me to the point where I want to cut it again. I went about 3 weeks with those set of dreads and after careful consideration, I decided to restart my dreads for the third and last time. My reasoning this time was that I wanted thicker dreadlocks. I know it's down to personal preference but after having both skinny and thick locs, I can say that I like having fewer and thicker dreads because they are easier to manage. This dreadlock journey so far has truly been an adventure with its ups and downs. Now that I have made it this far, I have pretty much gotten through the rough stages so it's going to be pretty easy for me from here on. I have a bunch more in store for y'all so stay tuned and thanks for watching!

A lot of people worried about growing locs because they are IN the corporate world. I started growing my hair with the intention of putting it in locs while I was in the corporate world. I went through the ugly phase and everything but kept my head down and let my numbers speak for themselves. The very first time I put my hair in cornrows I got ALL KINDS of gasps and comments and people making a scene but my brothers on the floor held me up when I felt low. Fast forward to now - Been growing my hair over 3 years and never actually put my hair in locs because I found it fascinating learning about curl patterns and how to style my own hair. I'm about to begin a new job now, have been offered a contract and signed all my paper work so I'm gonna be sure to get my starter locs BEFORE I start this new position SO THAT from day 1 everyone is used to me having locs. My point in saying all this is do you. If you work for a company that would fire you over your hair, you shouldn't be there anyway. If you are trying to get hired by a company that would discriminate based on your hair, it's toxic and you shouldn't be there anyway. If you REALLY want that job, then go get hired and loc up before your first day. At the end of the day, it's YOUR life so live it boldly. You will never regret pursuing the things you are passionate about.

@@turg993 Thanks bro! To update you all, I'm so glad I got my locs. I pierced my nose too following that same mindset in my original comment. Crazy thing is, the environment is SUPER open and encouraging so I'm now sitting here like MAN.. imagine how ridiculous I would feel if I had decided NOT to loc based off of what people MIGHT think about me..... That would probably be worse than receiving any criticism whatsoever. Y'all stay blessed and just go for it! If I can make it in the corporate world with locs and cornrows and intricate braids, so can you!

I was in the military and they wouldn't let me do anything with my hair. Then I started getting bumps on the back of my head from ingrown hairs because they forced me to cut it so low. Now I'm out of the military and I can't have a normal fade hair cut because of the bumps. Guess its time to grow it and lock it up.

I remember my journey years ago 😂. I cut mine off back in 2010. My daughter wants me to grow mine back after seeing my old pics. My 9 year old son wants them now, so I got a appointment booked for him tomorrow. His will definitely look interesting. He’s mixed, with red hair, and freckles 😂.

@ElementalSk81 5 жыл бұрын
@@tiki9032 the ugly phase is basically that point in your loc journey where your locs are too short to put up/style basically. typically for most its between the 3-7 month period. for me atleast once i hit about 6-7 months in, my locs were long enough to put into a mini ponytail so i didnt "suffer" for too long, and now im 4 yrs strong. but honestly, if you love your hair, there will bee no ugly phase. youll accept your locs as they are and appreciate the growth and journey so much more

Yea that’s the hardest part about it. When mine itches, I try to scratch it and if that doesn’t work I try to spray it with moisturizer or sometimes I even put a little bit of water in my hands and then rub my scalp with it.

Thanks, It can definitely be done. That's about the amount of hair that I started with on the last set of locs. I think it makes it a little easier when you start with that much hair because they won't unravel as easy.
