Loved this band even though they came and went in a flash back in 1985/86. Both their singles "Life In A Northern Town" and "Love Parade" sounded so fresh and very different from a lot of stuff that was on the radio at the time. This song has such a cool sped up 80's techno sound with a late 60's carefree kind of vibe.

Shane Anthony They actually brought out two further excellent albums "Remembrance Days" (1987) and "A Different Kind Of Weather" (1990) which for some very very very strange reason never charted in the UK and "Remembrance Days" only got to 181 in the US. Their first album (Life In A Northern Town) only got to 50 in the UK and 20 in the US... :-(

It wasn't strange! Look at how they treated Kim Wilde-the best woman in music, with the most knockout albums anyone truly released-each highly different from the other, yet all highly brilliant, with not one weak track. Even more significantly, the 15 extra tunes she did during the first decade-every non-album B-side and non-album single, made another highly excellent album when compiled together and played from the first to last. Never did she drop the ball once, just soared, yet support and stats don't bare this reality. This befell loads of decent artists, even the few American ones that were worth it ('Til Tuesday, Voice Of The Beehive, Information Society, Bangles that even their own stupid country cared nothing about. Many UK acts were treated dreadfully and never got the hits they deserved or the plaudits or are remembered fondly-IF EVEN AT ALL-down the line either. Ever since Madonna the vile arrived that same year as the Academy, every other act (if it weren't critically acclaimed) had to just disappear and slide away. It was all about Madonna, Michael Jackson, Prince and other crap that shouldn't even exist like Bon Jovi, while the equally lousy but nauseatingly acclaimed ones like Weller, Sting, Collins, Cure were allowed to carry on. U2, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, Sade and Alison Moyet were safe, everyone else could sod off. Ironically I feel this is their weakest tune. The debut naturally got the most singles off it, but that doesn't make it better. 'The Lesson Of Love' for me is their ultimate tune, and their excellent Smiths cover. They did no wrong singles, but this one doesn't have the same punch the other do. Too wishy-washy.

This song is like a beautiful mosaic of music. It is made of little tiny bits of, and allusions to, so many classic soul and R&B songs from years before, all combined in a clever way so that a unique and wonderful picture emerges from all the fragments. Weirdly enough, "Life In a Northern Town" never spoke to me, but I've always thought this song was the one that should've been the massive mega-hit. I only now after all these decades thought to look to see if there was a video of this. And, of course, there was, this being from the mid 80s.

Like a lot of bands from the 80’s Warner Bros (their label that signed them up for a 3 record deal) did absolutely nothing to promote them, even though John Hughes surely did what he could for them - there was so many other bands out then with harder edge music, their music was considered fluff by the FM rock stations - but after hearing their first LP, I found myself mesmerized by their sound, and even with their sophomore effort having Indian Summer as their lead single, they were ignored by most radio stations - the lamoid album cover art did not help matters - I still consider it their best work
