Was in Europe in the 80s, when this song hit the air waves. Sounded good then--sounds just as now, in 2024. I always say that the 70s was my decade for the music that I loved, but the 80s had its share of great reminiscing and thinking you're on top of the world music. Promises-Promises was definitely one of them.

Thanks for posting the lyrics to one of my favorite songs of the eighties. Another one with a similar message is Taken In by Mike and The Mechanics. Very jazzy. Most remember The Living Years but Taken In has a special place in my heart for songs about fools. Everybody Plays the Fool sometime. That one's from the seventies. Then there's Promises, Promises by Dionne Warwick from the sixties. Totally different song but just as good. Written by Burt Bacharach RIP. Who also wrote There's Always Something There to Remind Me. So full circle.

This played on my 80's mix while I was driving along the beach last night and it just seemed to be the perfect song to listen to at the perfect time. An 80's classic... and one of my all time favorites.

This song was all over the radio back in '83. I was only 8 or 9 years old then, and didn't even know who sang this until many years later!

If you can find it, give a listen to their first album. It's the one with both "Always Something There..." and "Promises..." Every track is a banger! I played it to death back in the day.
