My bike build video would be twelve days of me re-watching Park Tools videos and my wife and kid peeking into the shop to ask "Is everything ok? We heard shouting."

It's not often I watch a bike build and don't see even the smallest detail I would have spec'd differently if money was no object, but at every step - colours and components - this had me nodding my head in agreement - lovely! (Maybe Conti GP5000s TR tyres 😉 )

I’m enjoying the bike so far kzbin.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

Spent about 500 miles on it and so far so good. kzbin.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA Pros:1. Very light2. Solid quality build3. Fast delivery: It arrived 5 weeks earlier than expected.4. Easy assemblyJust a few cons but nothing major:1. Cheap tin tubes and had flat on first day... but not a big deal. I replaced the tubes.2. Seat is a bit uncomfortable but that's pretty much the same situation with most bikes.3. Seat post is a bit long/high for a smaller size 48 bike - had to saw 2 inch off to fit properly. The lowest setting is too high. The post locking system does not seem to hold well (perhaps because I saw 2 inch off).4. wheels are not tubeless compatible (from what I can tell)

I just bought a new Winsor Wellington 2.0 aluminum frame road bike online for $399. And it was all Shimano with 100+ psi tires. While sitting and resting on a park bench I was trying to estimate the total number of parts while viewing the bike. And it came out at about 700 to 800 total parts which is way more than you think. There are a ton of tiny parts in total, especially the wheels. The question is, how can they make and ship this bike in Taiwan, and then re-sell and ship again to me in the U.S. for this amount of money. The price included U.S. shipping. It is no wonder there is little manufacturing in the U.S. anymore. There were probably 50 to 75 wrapping and shipping material parts on top of that. BTW - For general bike trail riding, the bike is first class and easy to peddle.
@BeyReaper
@BeyReaper Жыл бұрын
It looks like very low, bottom barrel components on the bike. That being said I would like to get GCN’s view on it since the Eurobike is about the same price. Bottom barrel components dont typically last all too long but your bike may be a much better value of a bike compared to the Eurobike.
@mesillahills
@mesillahills Жыл бұрын
@@BeyReaper Let's face it, bike selection is not necessarily based on common sense. It is sort of like an ego trip for a lot of people. Maybe even most people. Starting price $1,400 bikes in local bike stores here in the U.S. are mostly sold out. And they provide nothing more than a $400 online bike does. For general riding on a relatively flat city bike trail, expensive bikes are a waste of money unless service is your main bogey. But bike shops repair and service cheap bikes too at about the same charges. We avid bikers laugh at people riding $2,500 bikes down at a local river side bike trail. And there are a lot of them doing that. Ego trip !

I can head out and buy a watch that costs €50 and it tells me the time I can also buy a Patek Philippe that costs a wee bit more but essentially has the same functionality. Bottom line both may be "bikes" but they are worlds apart when it comes to quality, technology and RND
@mesillahills
@mesillahills Жыл бұрын
@@joelyons886 They are worlds apart in price too. But for general riding (not racing or hill climbing), peddle pressure required is everything. And that is controlled almost entirely by gears and tire PSI. A $200 bike and a $14,000 bike are going to last about the same number of total mile before wearing out. And parts on Amazon are cheap. Virtually ALL of the avid bike riders where I ride use cheap bikes. The speed vs. peddle pressure are exactly the same. That's why, and it is also why we laugh at people wasting their money on something they get little to nothing more out of. Of course people with lots of money feel like their expensive bike is better. And that is why people make them. Actually I can afford one too. But I am not that stupid.

YOU GET A GREAT LOOKING BIKE, THEN PUT UGLY, BLAND SHIMA(NO!) ON IT!!! WHEN I BUILT UP MY COLNAGO ITALIAN-MADE FRAME, IT HAD TO BE CAMPAGNOLO SUPER RECORD EPS, BORA WHEELS, SELLE ITALIA SADDLE, ETC. I COULD NOT GET ITALIAN PEDALS, SO HAD LOOK CARBON/TI CERAMIC. EVEN ALL MY CLOTHING IS 100% ITALIAN-MADE, WITH SHOES COSTING NEARLY £400!!!

Good for you! I prefer to use shimano but of course everyone has their own preference. My dad is an Italian purist on his bike too but shimano for me is just the most reliable and efficient.
