Sierra Space's Dream Chaser spaceplane is edging closer to its inaugural mission to the International Space Station (ISS), with a scheduled launch in the third or fourth quarter of 2024. However, you know, before it can embark on its journey, the spacecraft must complete two significant tests and undergo final preparations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
This mission will be the first of seven resupply missions to the ISS under the NASA contract. A second reusable spaceplane is also under construction to meet NASA's requirements and potentially service future commercial space stations. After undergoing environmental testing at NASA's Neil Armstrong Test Facility in Ohio since December, the Dream Chaser is ready to be transported to the Kennedy Space Center.

Forget about the dream of a new rocket, they need to focus on dream chaser if successful, will become the personal emergency craft for all space stations over dragon, Star-liner and half a dozen others. Launchpad rockets will become a commodity like airlines. They could double the size of dream chaser and still do well. We have to be able to move people. Back n forth easily only once we get infrastructure in place can we push larger tonnage which will require more humans in space which requires more adaptable flexible vehicles. Once human certified If you place a few in Starship you could put up a lot and place them at the new space stations. It may not be pretty,but everyone needs a life boat for just in case.

Sierra Space and ULA are tightly bound contractually, technically and competitively. Together, they ARE driving down the price by providing COMPETITION to SpaceX. They REALLY are doing what they REALLY need to do. Truly...

GOOD!!! once successful thre will definately be zero need for Starliner... the only thing it has going for it right now is the ability to help maneuver/boost the space station, which Dream Chaser is capable of.

Personally, I'd like to see the shift to a SSTO craft, like the X-33 VentureStar. There were a couple other designs/prototypes, such as the DC-X project, though it seems we're still stuck using conventional rockets for the time being. I know people want to think of Dream Chaser as being just a mini shuttle, though it more closely resembles Boeing's X-20 Dyna-SOAR project from the '60s. I have no idea what's up with Blue Origin and why they've been doing things the way they have been. Seems like they must be run by former defense contractors or something with the idiocy they exhibit ("Oh, somebody else is doing what we want to do, only more quickly and efficiently, so...we must SUE them to slow them down so we can keep dragging our feet and do stuff like Boeing does these days!"). 🤦‍♂ Speaking of Boeing (or "Boing" as I've seen some use on purpose), they've certainly gone downhill since their heyday as one of the top aerospace firms. Greed and profit over safety and innovation. I miss the 1960s when we still had enthusiasm and "can-do" people. ✌🧔

How can you compare DreamChaser and Dragon?!? And, why is Dragon not allowed propulsive landing? ULA can't launch 2 rockets within one year?!? But Sue Origin said they'd ramp up engine production! That is a bad bottleneck for DreamChaser. Should better also try to launch with Falcon. 🚀🏴‍☠️🎸

@davidstevenson9517
@davidstevenson9517 24 күн бұрын
Youre no sucker, Gordon. Capsules, launched on ballistic missile descendants, should be obsolete by now. Why not? That Humanity are still using these is simply lack of funding and political will, NOT technical challenges. The Future lies with winged orbiters with jet/scram/rocket engines; taking off and landing like aircraft, to LEO. Rockets are restricted to Space; Cislunar Transport and Lunar launches to facilitate an Earth/Moon/Near Earth Asteroid economy. Dammit! After 55 years of observing Spaceflight, I'm still waiting!🛫🛬🛰🚀🌚⌛
