just built a metal building 40x60 which we hired out...in our late 60's ...not as much we do ourselves in these trades anymore Cost 5 times your cost with posh epoxy floor and lift pads but no lift yet. Insulated with vinyl bags full of pink insulation. We also installed 11 6x3 windows to enjoy the light and the views of the farm. 2 larger 10 x 12 doors with power operators and remote controls. Finally 3 large LED lamps make the place like daylight even at night. Bigger budget so more toys.

They may have some bad and some good models. I've had one set for about 3 years that are now in my girlfriend's metal foundry shop and all 12 work fine. I have another 15 in my shop that are about a year old and also fine. All of them have been infrequently exposed to high humidity and temps between 20 and 150 degrees F. Haven't had a single one fail. All two bulb units with 120v plugs and wrap around housings.

Fantastic.. Over the years this will certainly pay for itself and probably 10x more "comfortable" than my 2 car garage with the HOA hovering over me. I have to limit my projects to things that can be finished in one or two days time. Looks like you could do a full, custom build from the frame up and work as late as you want into the night. I've been 100x worse off than what you're doing right there because the work absolutely had to get done. I really hope you're enjoying and do some great projects there.

Did you put the post in the ground or did you put a galvanized metal bracket on top of the concrete and then bolt in your post? There is a big difference between a pole barn and a post frame constructed building. One last for about 40 years and the other last generations.

Automotive lifts are required to be able to safely operate picking up 25% more than they are actually rated. So to get an 11,000 lb capacity rating requires actual lifting capacity of 13,750 lbs. (7,000 lb rated: will lift 8,750 lbs; 9,000 rated: will lift 11,250 lbs) I have installed hundreds of lifts of all types. Rotary, Challenger, Gilbarco, Ben Pearson, etc. 4 inches of reinforced concrete, ¾" anchor bolts, holes drilled all the way through, never had an issue.

You're getting really good deals. 150 bucks for hard creek rock? I just signed an order today for limestone screenings for 225 (with tax) delivered for 14 ton. But creek rock around here would be round stone. Not good for under concrete I would think because it can't really be compacted. It just likes to roll. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead Жыл бұрын
You may be right depending on the mix, but this stuff has a mix size that really made it pack well. Then we went over that with limestone crusher run and it made a great base. I’ve been using the creek rock for driveway base under limestone and it works really well!
@keithwiebe1787
@keithwiebe1787 Жыл бұрын
@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead I'd like some of that rock over limestone. Here, the limestone when dry acts like concrete but when wet is just a sticky mess. I'm going to spread some limestone this afternoon and wet it down and try to pack it.

This is such a cheap way to build, in Sweden we do the concrete foundation waaaay thicker than you, deep corners! Wood straight down in the earth will just rot within 10 years. Big no. You need to have drainage around the building so water will always push away from the foundation. No wonder your houses collapse when a tornado hit I’m in shock by your building standards.

Well this isn't Sweden it's the US and Kentucky. Treated beems last way longer than 10 years. I have some in the ground ground for 20 years and they are still solid. Plus we have tornados that can rip up concrete and asphalt off a highway so the building would be gone anyway wouldn't it.

Why didn't you spend a little extra and get overhang all the way around. ..it looks like a cheap grab the money and run building

Don’t do your own concrete!!! My footers in my garage are over 4/5 feet deep! High and low spots always occur. Cost in CA are ridiculous no apples to apples plus metal has no insulation factor better to stick build!

Oh I would absolutely do my own concrete again! The imperfections are minor compared to the savings of $6-8k. Now that the floor is in use we don’t notice a thing. Also, you can insulate a post frame building just the same as a stick built building. Everybody has to weigh their own factors though. No worries. 🤷🏼‍♂️
