From his wife Amy: REST IN PLAY, AL PETTEWAY My true love succumbed to cancer on Monday, September 25th, 2023. I realize this news will be coming as a great shock to many of you. I’m so sorry. We intended to share this important news with so many of you - personally. As soon as we received Al’s diagnosis, we began to draft those messages, but we could never finish them. We only managed to get a few names down on our must-call list before the urgency of care took over our lives. We were simply overwhelmed from the start. Posting about this loss publicly now makes it all too real. I’ll never be ready for this. Yet here I am, absolutely bereft, because we are now in a world without Al Petteway. If you would like to learn more about Al’s cancer journey, his most recent music, and his final days, I have written in more detail, below. (In a format Michael Eldredge and I have fondly come to call “the long slog.” Sorry about that. I type fast.) There is a little more information provided in photo captions, as well. I have only just begun sorting through our treasure-trove of memories, so you’ll just have to forgive me for posting more and more in the weeks and months ahead. Al and I had such an amazing life together. I want to celebrate our love forever. I hope you will take this opportunity to share your own memories and thoughts about Al here, as well, if you are so inspired. This part is going to slay me. But, ultimately, I know that your stories will begin to help me heal, too. It will do my heart good to hear how very much Al and his music have touched your lives, as well as mine.
