This is the story in pictures, of an endeavour to find inspiring scenes by water colour artist Hester Frood who travelled widely in this quest and discovered the brilliant pink of the Island of Rhum in the early morning summer sunrise.
Born in New Zealand, Hester Frood came to England at the age of seven and spent her youth near Exeter in Devon. She met the famous printmaker D.Y. Cameron on a visit to Scotland in 1906. He was so impressed with her work that he told her to “draw and draw” and offered to teach her the technique of etching. During the following years her work was exhibited widely at the Royal Scottish Academy and at the Royal Academy in London.
