It is indeed a splendid piece - at one time to be found in the storage compartment of every piano seat in the land. Along with two other pieces which I can think of.

I have been told, by my dad, in the 50's, this was the schindlers list of its day. In that any one who was learning piano wanted to play this wonderful piece……the film was filmed at Trebarwith strand near Tintagel north cornwall….my home……id recognise that headland (penalick point anywhere) …..well the outside scenes were….the piece was written in the style of rachmaninov/tchykovsky…..thank you for posting….allowing its discovery……beautiful!!!!!!!!!

Interestingly, the music became more popular than the movie. People came to see the movie several times just to hear this music by Charles Williams. So haunting.
@FlashHarry6219 жыл бұрын
BroadwayG I can believe that. There were a rash of pseudo- and actual piano-concerto-scored movies in Britain at that time - Brief Encounter, Dangerous Moonlight, etc. Largely forgotten today, these musical gems gave the movies they accompanied enormous depth and atmosphere. Plus, the records - and Tchaikovsky's PC1 - topped the popular charts, too. And all the while, the Luftwaffe rained high explosives on her from above...

I named my daughter Olwyn..a beautiful Welsh name..A princess in Welsh mythology, leaving white blossoms in her footsteps..(Although my daughter is half- Russian, half-Irish)...In Welsh legend Olwen was a beautiful maiden, the lover of Culhwch and the daughter of the giant Yspaddaden. Her father insisted that Culhwch complete several seemingly impossible tasks before he would allow them to marry, and Culhwch was successful with all of them.

Olwen Suzette Stewart Great comment! The nearest I came was when a magician appeared on TV who shared my whole name - to add to the strangeness, I'm white and he's black (we are both English). It made my ears tingle! But given the unusualness (that's actually a word - I looked it up) of your name, it must have made YOUR ears positively BURN!

The first time l ever heard this beautiful piece of music l would have been around 7 or 8 years old. It must have been in this film on tv. I asked my mum what it was called and she said The dream of Olwyn. I immediately fell in love with the name, and mum told me when l was born they were either going to call me Olwyn or name me after my grandmother, Wilhelmina, and they chose gran's name to please her. (I get all sorts of shortened versions of that name). Then in secondary school, one of my classmates was called Olwyn and l was so jealous. I'm 65 now and it still bothers me to this day that l was given the wrong name. 😊

I remember we played this piece in college symphonic band in 1962. I loved it then, but lost track of it until hearing it again almost 60 years later. I think I love it even more now. I read that this composer also wrote "Theme From the Apartment ". The two works have a lot of similarities. Both are very beautiful, in my opinion.

The record only - the movie clip was already up. THANK you for your comment. Good luck. Mike.

THE DREAM OF OLWEN (From “While I Live”) Lyrics: Winifred May - Music: Charles Williams "Olwen, I hear you call to me At moonrise across a golden sea; Softly the waves make melody To wake all my song of memory. Olwen, come to me, I implore. Tell me, where shall I find you? Olwen, 'til the stars shine no more, True unto you I shall be. Deep is the blue that veils the night. The light in the west has faded, But I must pursue 'til dawn breaks through The dream I am dreaming of you, Beloved. Olwen, in the wings of the wind, Fondly your voice is calling... Calling from a world far apart, And strangely, you seem to answer The dream in my heart." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (As featured on the Music of the Stars)

I've checked and while someone further down this thread said to try Ebay - they DON'T HAVE it. And although "While I Live full movie" is listed on KZbin's search engine - THAT doesn't exist EITHER! (I have it on VHS - glommed from TV, many years ago - but given the apparent fact it's been taken down from KZbin, I'm not about to risk ANOTHER strike!) HOWEVER... it HAS been released on DVD and is currently available from AMAZON! But beware: they're TIMEWASTERS, if you don't live in The West.

The full movie USED to be on KZbin - but either the poster deleted it, or lost their account... either way, it's GONE now and it would be RISKY to upload it again. tushygalore I just ordered it from Amazon, but it's a PAL format which means it won't play on your DVD player if you live in the US and it doesn't support PAL format, but it will play on your computer.
