OMG. I just found this on YT. I love this genius man Steve Howe. Am 71 years old. First saw YES when I was about 17. I can't remember where :( Somewhere in London. Were they ever on the same bill as Free? I dunno for some reason they are linked together in my mind. I so wish I had kept my entrance tickets to all the bands I saw and took for granted. I guess we all were young and thought that this incredible music would somehow be handed down to younger geniuses. The skills of the musicians, the psychedelic poetry of the lyricists, the mental drummers, the extraordinary voices of the singers. But it wasn't handed down for some reason. There's no shortage of genius musicians today. Just, it seems, no great poet/bards to write the lyrics and no way to connect them to unique singers. There's lots of talented singers but can they find the words/lyrics? Can anyone imagine a more motley drew than Jon, Chris, Steve, Rick and those insane drummers? Bill Bruford and Alan White? Will we ever have anything that wonderful again?

Great playing all round, and what a pleasure to see Steve Howe play that very familiar solo. I came of age listening to Yes. When I saw them live, only then did I realize that many of the fantastic sounds on their albums were actually Steve Howes guitar playing instead of a synthesizer.

I dont know it sounds more dynamic when Yes does it. Yessongs is way more intense. This is ok but just kind of goes along, nothing jumps out at you like from Yessongs.
@davep82213 жыл бұрын
Mr P seems kind of happy. I heard he -- at least at one time -- wanted to think of DT as the Metal Yes. IMO, one thing that prog metal misses is dynamics: fast/slow, loud/quiet, simple/complex; with a single song and between songs. I've never heard any other group master that better than Yes. Queen is their only equal in that regard, and they have a more eclectic variety of songs. Best contrast ever: "Death on Two Legs" into "Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon." But the more I listen to DT, the more I like them. Especially since Rush walked away from the days of "epic" songs. That's a paraphrase from Alex. It's always great to have a whole new, large, discography to look forward too. I love their covers; they really love their influences.
