Or when they play live. I swear the audio guys have something against Myung's bass. Every time I see them in concert I get seats about 4-5 rows in front of Myung and I most times can't hear his bass. I should have asked Myung about that when I met him back in 2019 in Peoria, IL

​@@chrismorris6356 I haven't seen them live since 2007 (yeah, some fan I am, lol). It does seem, though, that on most of the live mixes that he's either too quiet but still noticeable or so down in the mix that you have to either look for it intently or wait for a part where he solos in order to hear him. LSFNY and Live at Budokan are exceptions to this, with that second one, in my opinion, being the cleanest live mix that I've heard on their DVDs (albeit with a BIT too much panning between the keys and guitar). On this recording here, though, it's pretty much at the max with the bass, which is definitely a better sound than not enough. If it was up to me, I'd turn the bass down like maybe 5% and then turn the kick up 10%. Typically on these DVDs it seems like the kick overshadowed the bass guitar in terms of volume. Here the kick is a hair too quiet, though. At least the mix is balanced overall, though. You can definitely hear everything!

This is a good idea from the DT camp, but a bit late considering this was 2017. Kind of the story with DT - great musicians, not the savviest of business people. Metallica has done a few “live shows”. The streamed one from their HQ had this really cool video system that brought in MetClub fans from all around the world. The set up was pretty cool. The formula is not complicated - control for the virus; get your crew together; head up to YonderBarn; do a show and stream it. Put out a DVD of it with “making of” clips, interviews, all that stuff that makes people pay extra. DT needs to follow the Rush model of putting out a live DVD after every tour cycle. Sort of a crime that The Astonishing got all this hype, a full tour of only that album, in these great venues, and no tour DVD. I’ve seen bootlegs of gigs and the show was awesome. The fans are divided on it all, but they still came to the shows, and people would have bought the DVD. Also, all these live shows should be out on services like the iTunes movies store, like the Metallica S&M2 concert. I think DTs management can swing some of these things. Great idea. Right for the moment. Just not immediate enough in terms of the performance aspect. Great musicians. Not savvy businessmen.

I get what you mean. I’m not too crazy about the astonishing but record translated excellent live. It is very odd that all this hype for it at the time and no dvd is super strange. Also for a band that loves rush I’m surprised they’re just not stealing their business tactics of releasing a dvd after every tour cycle. Especially since they put on an intense 3 hour show every night with packed theaters. It’s strange indeed.
