Perhaps this is not the best LaBrie show, but it´s still a kick ass show for the whole band. What draw my attention here is that this looks like a special songlist for Wacken, with almost one song for every album, played in time order; and specially picking songs not so technichally complex but with a fair dose of metal (wich is the core of the festival). All in all, I believe they´re "brainy" and pro as hell even when picking their songlist... which is great by the way!

I must say that I am not only totally okay with his voice, but I still love his voice on stage! This is the difference between studio recording sessions and live singing. I am a Dream Theater fan ever since from right the beginning and I still am. People do age, like you and me. Could you imagine Dream Theater being on stage with a singer which would be like 20 years younger than the rest of the band?? Nope, This would look and feel so ridiculously and would most probably destroy the whole band dynamics. Every single musician of the band evolved and matured mentally and physically, and so did also LaBrie. He must stay in the band because he is the voice of Dream Theater. There is nothing more to say.

You can hit your notes when you're young and you're twenties and you can think I like never before and you can do in your thirties and your 40s you can still hit them but as you get to that stage you won't be able to hit those high notes night in and night out it's impossible so use your voice on certain songs so you can hit those notes but don't do it where you can put a strain on it that's when you start to feel the crack that's why James needs to take a break to rest his voice and not speak so much that's what Steve Perry did in Journey

For everyone hating on Labrie, there are more than a few comments floating on videos from DT's 30th anniversary tour explaining that Labrie's been a bit under the weather. That, coupled with him hitting stuff from WDADU, I&W, Awake and FII, things won't stay crystal clear forever. I'm sure that when the next album comes out and they go on tour, JLB will sound much better.

+Piekartz When I saw them, he was outstanding. I loved it. Honestly your right though, he had to have been sick or something because he's NEVER been this bad. But if something were to happen to Labrie, my number one singer for this band would be Bruce Dickinson. He's like 53 or 54 and he sounds amazing still. And then Steven Wilson would be amazing as well. Not to put down James in any way though, I still think he's the right guy for the band right now. Until his vocals go down the drain for good, I still prefer him over anyone else.
@SPQRTempus9 жыл бұрын
+Piekartz I've seen them twice and the first time he was mind-blowingly good and the next he was rather jet lagged at the time and it showed. For the haters, singing what JLB is asked to sing and how he does it is not easy, so if you can do better over the course of 25 years then you can judge him. You just have to catch him on a good day to appreciate him. I heard Bruce Dickinson at the end of an Iron Maiden tour and his voice was totally shot to hell, so even the best have their bad days.
@Olliec19908 жыл бұрын
+Piekartz People say that on every video though, that he was sick etc or having an off day. I'm a fan of this band but they need to change up their vocalist, to someone more consistent who can actually sing their songs live. He should step down on good terms.
@r0ckslide3758 жыл бұрын
+SPQRTempus Yeah, I agree with you. Some days they're great, some days they're not. My dad was telling me about the couple of times he saw Metallica. First time, they sucked. Second, amazing. And yeah, you're right about Bruce. When I saw Maiden he was amazing, and that was 5 years ago. So I thought, hey he probably sounded even better in the 80's. Well, sometimes. A lot of the live concerts that were recorded (except for a couple few that I've seen on youtube), he sounds strained, like he's struggling to get the high notes out. I guess it just depends on what day you see them. Fortunately I've never seen a musician at their worst live, and I'm hoping when DT comes in 2016 they'll all sound better than ever.

The idea for this 30th anniversary tour was to include one song from every studio album up to that point. Neat idea I think but it definitely doesn't flow too well.

Sure, Labrie is hurting here... but remember, his instrument can't be retuned or traded out. It wears down over time and as the tour goes on. If you want a perfect recital listen to an MP3. I think 27:46 gives you the bigger picture.
@mwmiller9018 жыл бұрын
He just needs to come to terms with the fact he doesn't have that crazy range anymore and sing everything an octave or two down. That or use auto tune.
@gareginasatryan67618 жыл бұрын
+mwmiller901 i know church singers his age that sing better. The problem is not his range but his wailing style.
@robincosby5168 жыл бұрын
That's kind of the signature style that goes with the genre. Rock singers just burn out. I think considering the longevity of the band, LaBrie has done respectably. No church singers need to sound that way. If they do, God gets quite perturbed.

Respect messieurs!!!!!!!!!!!
@Mitchell7798 жыл бұрын
Okay, everybody who is wondering what "happened" to James. His voice fluctuates sometimes due to rupturing his vocal cords back in the 90's. Its stated that his voice has never been the same since. BUT, it has healed but has never been the same and he has said that some days are better than others. For example, the 25th Anniversary show (Score) in New York city 2006, His voice was fucking incredible. As well as Live at Luna Park in 2013. But than other shows it may be off. It sucks but DT is my all time favourite band and I'm gonna stick with them through all this. The good and bad shows. \m/ and on the off hand, who ever says "why didn't they get a new singer?". They're not just going to drop James as a vocalist because of his "off days" when most times he sounds great. Good fans would understand this and not make a big deal about it and would stick through it :) any way lol, I'm not gonna respond to any negative shit, I've said what I felt I needed to say :) Rock on people!

They couldn't overdub this video because it was broadcast live, that's why. Essentially all live DT DVDs of the last 15 years are overdubbed to hell, with the vocals almost entirely re-recorded.
