Recorded Jan. 24, 1995 Japan. This is the Encore of the night. It includes the Closing Credits because it's followed by a funny observation by Portnizzle.

10:57 - MP rushing to comfort James... I wish James would remember that now instead of feeling freed from a control freak, that still got them where they are today... :(

@@Diegosaurio I can't sing even a quarter as good as LaBrie did on this show but I absolutely know how frustrating it is when you have a bad day or are sick and unable to hit notes you used to be able to. I think James probably really did feel like he permanently destroyed his voice, though. I mean, he definitely doesn't sound amazing live nowadays (still great in the studio, though!) but given the circumstances, things could have been way worse. I agree, though, it's a shame how JL and MP had such a falling out. Maybe with the recent collab between JP and MP, we may see a reconciliation at least? I mean, to be fair, Portnoy DID often make fun of James' vocal issues in later years but still, they used to be great friends and I'd love to see them reconcile at least a little.

It’s funny cuz James can still perform dream theater songs with food poisoning but if axl rose gets a cough he cancels the whole tour
@RetrOchannel
@RetrOchannel 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah too bad it permanently damaged his voice. Axl could easily cancel because they were already an incredibly successful band. Dream Theater had only just got on the map, so to cancel the awake tour would've been really bad for their success.

Lol I do NOT like Axl but to be fair, that is definitely the best thing to do. James' biggest mistake was not taking time to rest as his doctor advised. His voice would probably have recovered fully, or at least closely to it, had he listened and taken that time off.

@@jakobfel2 the band couldn't stop the touring, if that's were the case, probably Dream Theater would died in 1995. The best option for them was to hire another singer for six months until James can sing again, but literally there was no time, because between James accident and the first gig of Japan in 1995 there was only a month of difference.

John’s sound is so weak in a way compared to his heavy sound now
@frittata3891
@frittata3891 6 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, that's the true DT guitar tone. He somehow manages to get a very rich midrange distortion while keeping a ton of clarity, almost like what you might get from a single coil guitar, but thicker than that. I mean listen to the chord he hit at 8:42 and tell me that's not heavy.
