As a DT fan, you got to remember that DT back in the day always had a list of reference / inspiration albums in the studio. And Muse was one of their inspirations for this albums, as well as Tool, U2 and Genesis. Both Muse and DT are great.

Amy Relax. I'm not saying they copied. I'm just saying it sounds simmilar. And actually, hysteria and stockholm syndrome are in Muse's album Absolution, which was released in 2003. So, why wouldn't they be an inspiration to dream theater? If they are a great band and great songs. Just an inspiration. Bands and artists get inspirations from anywhere. The fact that dream theater made something sounding like Muse does not mean Muse is better or anything.

No, only Panic Attack and maybe These Walls (to be honest, I can't see the purported Time Is Running Out influence on These Walls). I Walk Beside You is strongly close to U2, and the title song Octavarium pays homage to a number of prog rock bands like Pink Floyd and Genesis.

This is the album I've been waiting for Radiohead to make since The Bends and OK Computer(plus throw in some Queen influence for good measure) I have some serious catching up to do and a favorite new band! Nunca Es Suficiente Never Enough Me abrí de par en par Cut myself open wide Alcanzaste el interior Reach inside Te serviste tú mismo Help yourself De todo lo que tengo que dar To all I have to give Y luego te sirves a ti mismo otra vez And then you help yourself again Y luego te quejas de que And then complain that No te gustó la manera You didn't like the way Puse el cuchillo mal I put the knife in wrong No te gustó la forma en la que You didn't like the way Mi sangre se derramó en tu piso nuevo My blood spilled on your brand new floor ¿Qué dirías What would you say Si me alejara? If I walked away ¿Lo apreciarías? Would you appreciate Pero entonces sería demasiado tarde But then it'd be too late Porque solo yo puedo soportar tantas de tus maneras malagradecidas Because I can only take so much of your ungrateful ways Todo nunca es suficiente Everything is never enough Sacrifico mi vida Sacrifice my life Descuido a mis hijos y esposa Neglect my kids and wife Todo para que seas feliz All for you to be happy Todas esas noches sin dormir All those sleepless nights Y tantas peleas para darte más And countless fights to give you more Y luego dices que cómo me atrevo And then you say how dare that No te escribí de vuelta I didn't write you back Debo ser demasiado bueno para ti I must be too good for you Solo me preocupo por mí mismo I only care about myself ¿Qué dirías What would you say Si me alejara? If I walked away ¿Lo apreciarías? Would you appreciate Pero entonces sería demasiado tarde But then it'd be too late Porque solo yo puedo soportar tantas de tus maneras malagradecidas Because I can only take so much of your ungrateful ways Todo nunca es suficiente Everything is never enough

I wonder if Mangini will ever write his own Never Enough, due to all the flack he gets from the portnoy fan boys just because he isn’t Portnoy

I genuinely dislike DM, i find it soulless and tedious. Prog bands that both predated and preceded them made me interesting, evocative, artistically well progressive. Dream Theater is like video game music made by North Korean teens on Adderal. Taking itself a little too seriously, and not saying a whole lot or painting a unique picture that I find enjoyable. I’m fine with hyper technical music, I’d take Necrophagist over this any day, but there is a sterile aspect to DMs music I could never get past. I’m glad you guys enjoy it though.

@@mellowtron214Well it's okay, I guess. One thing I wonder about though is how you ended up on the least popular song in a relatively unpopular album of a band you don't even like 🤨

It's not the time who can give influence, therefore Muse influenced Dream Theater and Dream Theater influenced Muse. Influence is timeless for someone who can make the link between two works.

I didn't even know stockholm syndrome etc. back in 2005 and was only vaguely familiar with their style, but immediately recognized this song to sound exactly like MUSE. That's what I used to love about DT: they could sound like many bands or genres, if they wanted to.... that is, before they converged to one style (mystical) and straightened / fucked up the drums by letting Portnoy go without an even remotely adequate replacement...

I wonder if a Muse fan who's never listened to Dream Theater would hear this as a Muse song an recognize that it isn't them. Before listening to LaBrie, I mean. Maybe a b-side?

DT's style on this song is so similar to Muse's that i don't know if i'd be able to not recognize it as a Muse song.

I know this comment is old, but I got into DT a couple of years before getting into Muse, I did not realize this song had so much Muse influence until a year ago, but still, it sounds like DT, yes, with a heavy Muse influence, but still DT

Haha I listned to my playlist on tidal and the playlist ran out and I was listening with one ear. Because it was only my right ear I thought this was hysteria but sounded a little different cause I didnt have my left ear bud too, then the vocals kicked in and I realized it wasnt hysteria.

TheReaverOfDarkness it is pretty damn similar. There's nothing wrong with that. SS is a great song, and this song is great as well. They changed it enough to still stand on its own, while having the very Muse-esque sound.

I guess using the exact same progression for the chorus (including vocal melody, wich is obvious) and having such a similar main riff and tom-based verses is NEVER ENOUGH to hint at people they took inspiration from muse

just because that muse song is in the same key ITS THE SOME SONG OMG. listen to the brilliant chord progression and melodies in this. im a huge muse fan but this song has so much more complexity and depth to its melodies and chord progressions. 3:45 being exactly what im talking about.

saldunlop Dude it isn't only because it's in the same key. The intro is similar to Stockholm Syndrome. The chorus has similar chord progression to Stockholm Syndrome. The way he sings in the chorus is similar to Stockhoml Syndrome. The band even said that they were inspired by Muse when they wrote this album. Again, there is nothing wrong with that but you can't deny that DT once heard Muse and thought "wow, their sound is nice!".
