You know what’s funny about that song? It’s very likely that MP heard that song and he might have helped in the process, let me explain.. they started the writing process in early 2010 but it took longer than usual because MP was a rockstar at the time and he was collaborating with the biggest names in the industry while JP was writing the songs. When MP left they had pretty much everything written in 2010 with time signatures and everything ready to go only missing drums. So it’s very likely that Portnoy contributed to some degree before he left the band.

@architechworks2884Ай бұрын
@@nathanberner4963 For us, quality music really determines our way of thinking, a country will progress if its taste in music is quality, we are used to listening to Jazz n Blues, Funk, classic rock, hard rock, heavy metal and all other types of metal genres, even though we still adhere to religion and culture. Dream Theater is like a music teacher for us, we can learn a lot from there, when Pull Me Under was released, we felt like we got something fresh amidst the onslaught of rock music at that time, we learned a lot about progressive music from there.

@@nathanberner4963 it wasn't until at least 2007 when Systematic Chaos was released. Simply because at that time mp3 players just launched on mobile phones and we could easily exchange songs (which is illegal btw). Anyway, the average duration of a song is commonly 3-4 minutes, but then there are these 15, 20, even 30 minutes freaking long songs with crazy music arrangements from this lame-named band called Dream Theater. This is what initially made them popular from mouth to mouth. Night Terror is night and day for James compared with Metropolis Pt 1! James sounded really good on Night Terror, a song crafted for his middle range. But he butchered Metropolis terribly. P.S. I am enjoying 'hearing' JM. (Octavarium) He's rockin out too! For so many shows, even going back the MP eras, you couldn't hear him. Sounds good! Love that Bongo!

This is the life brought a lot of tough memories in my life backthen and in addition MP has just left the band in 2011 with an album called "dramatic turn of events"... so it was very special to listen to.

So cool to hear Portnoy on This is the Life
@melodic777Ай бұрын
Because they certainly couldn’t do any other songs requiring high level skill

@SardaukarXАй бұрын
@@melodic777 Without Mike Portnoy This is the Life wouldn't exist because there'd be no Dream Theater. Just because you wet your panties for Mike Mangini doesn't mean MP isn't highly skilled

DT for me is more than just a band, but more of a family, Labrie especially, you don't throw away your own brother even when he's not in good condition anymore and replace him with another person right? well if you see DT just as a band, that's different story

Excellent concert 🔥🔥🔥 The boys are out in full force! Side note: poor Jordan has to be half deaf by now setting up next to Portnoy and Mangini for all these years.

Was certainly a wee bit painful at times. It's 100% live though, of course, and almost everyone is there for the 'technical music'.

@@purapura_gaming Meskipun portnoy mainin Barstool Warrior & this is the life,soulnya mangini yg khas ilang bjir,udah kek dulu pas portnoy out,protes soulnya dia ilang,sekarang pas MP mainin lagunya mangini,malah ilang juga soulnya,emang kalo beda style mah susah

@@LUCIFER-zeuz ya begitulah setiap musisi punya ciri khasnya masing2 yg akan melekat ke lagu yg dia buat. Sekalipun mau ditiru 100% tetap saja "rasa" di instrumen yg dimainkan jadi beda. 😅
