They will need to go thru a certain amount of group therapy before they are able to hire another singer, so hard it was to “replace” Dominici back in the day. Next on the agenda : DT’s “Some kind of Monster” some kind of experience. I bet it’s the own bands Shadow that does not allow them all to face reality. They are so used to Laurie’s failure they don’t even hear it, for as much as it may be a paradox for musicians. I guess they will never had the cold blood they had in the way they treated Mangini. One thing is for sure, as long as g as they are able to make records with Laurie, he stays in. It’s regrettable they will never take a chance to try another singer and see what it gives. My personal pov : DT is over after the departure of Kevin..

I've seen DT live two times, once with Portnoy, once with Mangini, and I was so excited when I heard about the reunion. I was thinking of going to a show in my home town, but knowing how LaBrie sounded on the last few tours, I was very skeptical. Now I'm glad I didn't buy the tickets. This is really such a shame. You have singers like Dickinson, Hetfield and many more, older than LaBrie, that have aged gracefully, and then you have a guy who clearly struggles with every song and every high note. It's not just that he's off pitch, he is constantly out of breath, doesn't have any power in his voice. It's the first show of the tour, and he already looks to me like he doesn't want to be there, like he's waiting for the song (torture) to end. Yes, he maybe sounds better than the last tour, but this is still really, really bad. And for a band that values technical excellence above all else, frankly, unacceptable and really sad to watch.

@Velvetcharmer973 ай бұрын
@@ag423rpi LaBrie and Hetfield have distinct vocal types that is suitable to their different singing styles, Hetfield is a baritone. Baritones have a strong voices that gives gritty, aggressive, and powerful sound when it comes to metal. His voice is also more suited to talk-singing. LaBrie on the other hand, is more of a tenor. Tenors have a naturally higher vocal range and are often known for their ability to reach high notes with more ease and clarity.(Which he struggles to do atm because of he is getting old.) LaBrie’s singing style is more melodic, operatic, and focused on precision, which aligns with Dream Theater’s progressive metal style. Before telling me that labrie cant sing metallica songs as good as hetfield, ask yourself if james hetfield can even manage to sing ONE dream theater song. You don’t even now a shit about music and tell me that I’m talking bullshit. If you don’t like it, don’t listen to it. You compare hetfield and labrie, thats where you are talking bullshit. Not me.

@@Velvetcharmer97 It doesnt matter, those registers dont even apply to rock metal singers, you are so disillusioned, also ask yourself since Im listening to DT since 1991, did Labrie ever sing his own songs decent when he was younger, he was always using too much airy voices and rasp distortion live, thats why he fucked up his voice, bc he wanted to emulate those gritty voices, pitchless even when he was in his prime! Labrie never sang with precision even when he was in his 20's.

@@ag423rpi labrie is the lead singer of dt since 91, and he is the voice of dt because of dt wasnt really a thing before he joined in. He is one big part of the jigsaw. Basically James’ voice is shot. All the posts on KZbin of their show in England show just that. James is completely broken. Let's not shy away from this fact any longer and let's accept reality. He simply no longer has the physical mechanics that singing these songs demands. Let's consider the instrument equivalent and suppose that JR or JP started suffering from arthritis, and this caused very sloppy playing, particularly with the faster runs. Would we just accept that? No, we wouldn't. If they were suffering from physical limitations that made playing faster sections/songs difficult, they wouldn't embarrass themselves. They'd retire gracefully or at the very least they'd play within their means. It's no different with James, he's embarrassing himself and the band by trying to sing extremely demanding songs/sections in their original key. He sounds acceptable on Vacant, and on parts of songs that allow singing in the lower registers, but as soon as he starts going higher (or playing faster as per the arthritis example) it falls apart and he sounds like a drunk grandmother singing DT at karaoke.

The solution is for Labrie to sing at speech level. He has the range, but with that technique it is impossible to reach the notes well.
@storyline23393 ай бұрын
I suspect he can't hear that well anymore and pitch control is gone

LaBrie sang this song better, but the sound engineer FOH has the voice to loud. at least 3dbs louder than the band, that doesn't help james because if he wasn't on top of everything it would mask his notes better with the music

You mean we wouldn't hear his awful vocals as much, so it would ease the pain a little bit.

Yeah, and as an audio engineer, if I turn the singer down, I get shit on for doing that because no one can hear the vocalist. There's no winning. If he wants to keep being a part of the band, he's got to figure things out on his side. Turning him down isn't exactly an option. Also remember that phone microphones are tuned for vocals, so it's going to be a bit more punchy in these videos than in real life.

I was there. Labrie sounded good live. He adjusted one or two parts to avoid top notes.

Don't tell me that Eric Adams of Manowar who is older than James can still sing and hit some high notes.

I’ve watched the other parts of this show so I’ve seen it all by now. Ok, so wow they performed this song in the original key much like most of the songs in the other sets of this show and I’m baffled as to why with James’ voice being the way it is and has obviously performed for this show. Like he seemed to mostly be consistent for this song and hit most of the right notes and changed others of course when it went to the really high parts but I’m a little surprised. He would’ve done far better had they right out at the start of the show lowered Metropolis’ key down a half or whole step and the others he has very high parts in. Yet they didn’t and well we we’ve heard what happened if any of you watched the other parts to this concert. They have lowered Images & Words songs before on the anniversary of the album as well as SFAM album on its anniversary a few years ago so idk why they didn’t here unless James didn’t want them too because it’s the 40th and they wanted the original keys for them? I’m just speculating here but it would’ve helped him tremendously even though there’s people that hate him without doubt and say he’s always been like that. That’s false he hasn’t been like this constantly at all. I’ve seen them live several times now and usually he’s 9 out of 10 times on pitch and have hit the mostly high notes when it was required. He has gone down an octave on some before like he’s done on this show or changed the melody a bit to better match his range at the time but that’s normal for singers too especially aged singers but being flat a lot and seemingly out of tune even on some what I consider low range notes is a different kind of problem. Like idk if there’s a legit reason as if he was under the weather or not but like I’m just surprised DT didn’t lower the keys for their songs at all for James like at least the big consistent high note ones. The rest of the boys did fantastic though and even James had his moments of goodness but yeah, my thoughts at least. 🤘🏻

Compared to Metropolis part 1 where he was struggling on the whole thing, he actually pretty much nailed that "watch the sparrows falling" for the standards of his modern voice. After that it got worse again, but I'll give him credit for that line and the few other high notes he did alright with :P

Let's see when they start America tour or in the middle of Europe tour. Would he still be able to sing like this one or get worse. You can see their schedule is so tight and only rest a few hours when the show end not a few days. Which is for the vocalist that is very stressful and it can make the quality of vocals decrease.
