THIS is the side of DT no one mentions or suggests. Sadly all the people who don't like DT that are over critical of the band who believe they are just a "wankfest", don't know or care to know about all their songs where they _hold back_ on the instrument virtuosity, yet use their "chops" to create a more melancholic mood to match the subject matter. It's just another part of Dream Theater that I have enjoyed since WDADU (in particular on that album, _within_ the songs to change the mood), especially from Images & Words, on. Other songs that are like that; "Wait for sleep", "Another Day", "Surrounded", "Eve", "Lifting Shadows Off a Dream" (which I liken to Rush - "Mystic Rhythms"), "To Live Forever", "Anna Lee", "Hollow Years", "Take Away the Pain", "Beyond this Life", "Through Her Eyes", "The Spirit Carries On", "Disappear", "Goodnight Kiss", "Solitary Shell" and on . . . .

The Twelve Step Suite consists of 5 songs from different albums creating an album within five albums. One song from each of five different albums combined to make a "sub-album" dealing with Mike Portnoy's issues with addiction. Powerful album on its own. Also great idea to stick with studio songs from Dream Theater, IMO James Labrie has a great voice when he actually sings, but live he tends to fall into a pattern of yelling and screaming random vowels instead of singing the actual lyrics - it can get tremendously annoying.

as to the sirens, I believe the keyboardist hits a HotKey on his keyboard and it starts an mp3 soundtrack of Sirens in the distance. In one video, and a totally different song, I saw Rudis hit a key on the far bass end of the keys, and a sound effect started playing. So I say no it's not John on his guitar. He's good and beyond, but he ain't that....lol Also, I have really enjoyed watching your reaction videos. I have repeatedly watched them, and I'm always looking for your next Dream Theater reaction. No, I'm not weird, I just love DT. And now you know why. You have listened to them, and now You have the DT bug. I've had it since 1996. It was the awake album. Awesome! Just found your channel and have been watching ur vids all damn night long. Great reactions to some awesome music. I love to see reactions from people who have not heard music outside of their experience. Having said that, I do have a huge request...a song I have asked others to react to with no response, but I'll keep trying. The song is called "Last Chance" and the band is Shooting Star. This epic is from 1980 by a band from Kansas City, Mo that should have made it much bigger, but was overshadowed by bands like Kansas and Triumph with similar sounds. This song is probably the most epic sounding jam that just builds and builds all the way to the finish. It's roughly about the story of Moses, but not in a straightforward kind of way. With strong lyrics, big drums and a gigantic ending, it will leave you standing and calling for more! You just gotta trust me on this one, it is one of the most powerful songs EVER!!!! I'm 10 years older than you and grew up on classic rock and singer-song writer music in the 70's, than went heavy metal and head banger in the 80's and 90's. Now I'm all about the reggae with the new west coast sound hittin' me hard. As such, I'm out of my realm on rap and hip hop. I'd like to ask you to turn a rock guy on to a few suggestions I can check out myself if you would like to hit me with somethings. Peace and music to you!

Hey dude ! I read quite a few comments here But I didn't see any answers to your questions ... and as a 30+ year fan of Dream Theater I'm going to do my best to help you out. First off the sounds of the "ambulance" lol ... or the siren were all done by the keyboard player. Anything that isn't drums bass or guitar is taken care of by the keyboard player and quite often he will play with heavy almost guitar like sounds. Plus his solos are as good (or better) as the guitar player !! He's a Juliard trained virtuoso Jordan Rudess he's better than all the other four in the band combined !! No joke If you study the band a little bit deeper you will understand that they are all very studied musicians who went to school for music. Pretty much the best of the best and that's why they are fucking amazing. I am a musician have been playing for 35 years. I have been preaching this band since before they were Dream Theater Scream to all of my musician friends and friends about how killer writers and players they are !! Iron Maiden: Phantom of the Opera and Rime of the Ancient Mainer (preferable from the Live After Death album), and Dream Theater: A Change of Seasons (This is to Dream Theater what 2112 is to RUSH), Learning to Live, Breaking All Illusions, and Stream of Consciousness (instrumental).
