Very underrated song. It is stupidly hard to play, from that intro riff that wears you out, to the insane instrumental break, and you dont even get to rest, it just goes back into the intro riff. One of my favs.

Indeed! I fell in love with this song as soon as I heard the beginning riff... IMO I think that still today JM has not played any other bass riff as powerful as this one, I guess that's why it's such a painful song to play if you're not very trained on your instrument, just like Me during this period! :')

How to great dirty tone like that? Very impressive.

3/4 of gain on the middle tones, 1/3 on the high ones and flat position for the bass tones on the amp. Fully opened middle, flat bass and flat highs on the instrument. Pretend that your right hand is pulling an arrow on a bow while playing and you should be done.. It worked for me 😂😂

Hi Federico, thanks a lot, I spent some time looking for the right sound for play on this track, even if I have to admit that my bass sound is kinda overdubbed on JM's because of playing on the album song, so the final sound is not 100% from me! ...and using just your ears can be the best way to enhance/learn more about theory. I graduated from High School with Honors in Music as a Choral Member (basically, out of all the Choral/Chorus Members in New York in 1990-‘91, I made the “All-State Chorus” of 60-80 Singers) which involved a metric ton of Sight Reading complex classical music. However, it was just about the same time I started learning the Bass, to which I didn’t take any lessons for but my music background in School starting in Elementary & Middle School (3th-8th Grades) and a year of Theory Class helped me learn songs directly from ear, which not only helped when I was in an Original Band from 1992-1996, Cover Bands, Recording Sessions & Live Gigs throughout my life helped me pick up both Original as well as Cover Material extremely fast and get “Keeper Tracks” within 2-3 runs through the songs... which gave me a good rep as a Bassist who may not be the absolutely most technical player, but one who get tracks down very fast and saving time & money for the projects. Trust me, just work on figuring out basslines from your ears and grey matter in-between them, and it’ll hell you immensely should you join a band or become a player *professionally*. I’m certainly not saying having theory knowledge isn’t useful, but so is “Ear Training”. 2 solid years of extra lessons in that got me into my State’s Chorus, and transferred into a main Bass Skill quickly and importantly.
