Wow, I just watched that, and you're totally right! He smoked that performance! Nowadays his tone has changed, and he is quite often pitchy when he sings live. Still love him though.

@andrewman12 : No he did not. That middle part has always been 20++ secs long on the album and this time they actually also did it live. The way it's supposed to be. I think it adds much more to the mood and feeling actually playing it this long.
@GuillermoSmyser15 жыл бұрын
Either way, he still sang better then in studio than he does now in studio. And better live then than live now. It's just the sound I prefer. There is another bootleg called "killing hand live 92" on youtube that comes from the home sweet home bootleg and it isn't edited and sounds awesome, with some voice cracking tho...

Actually, I have the Dream Theater book that came out a couple years ago. I hate to break this to you, but they admitted that they re-recorded James' vocals on the Marquee album. I was disappointed to read that.

Wow, since 4:01 to the end, Portnoy is awesome, he is the best since 1986 until 2050 no one can beat him. I like how sounds with James, sounds... cool, it seems more like Dream Theater.

they play this at the same tempo as the original.
@GibsonRocker195814 жыл бұрын
@dudetr00 well... I dont really think he has any better memory than any other human. It is a basic thing in any instrument that anyone can play, Guitarists have to remember all the notes that they must play in the song, any drum player must remember all the beats the play in each part of the song... the singer must remember all the words he must sing in the song. It really does not differ much from playing some other instrument and you really dont need a special memory to remember all that :P
@Tonatiuth15 жыл бұрын
Well, in fact James wrote just a few songs, normaly Petrucci and Portnoy do that, but well he didn't sing it at the first time, but it aren't so hard to learn, the following Dream Theater songs are a little harder, than these in that album.

Why would that be a problem? Don't you think a musician memorizes more stuff than only the stuff HE writes? Besides... James does not write most of Dream Theater lyrics.
@soocool7814 жыл бұрын
@dudetr00 u sure? sometimes its so incoherant when he sings live i think he's just saying a syllable with a pitch and not worrying about pronounciation

@dudetr00 : dunno why you think thats so impressive, the instrument guys in the band know waaay beyond 300 riffs...

Jordan missed his cue on the middle instrumental section and they had to play a full four bars before he entered in with the organ...it sounded very out of place...a rare mistake on Jordan's part.

James is still better than Charlie, not even close. But lately, James’ live performance is somehow not so good, atleast he got his awesome live voice in around 2012. I can’t wait for this d/t tour.
@Blindsoulstealer12 жыл бұрын
Actually I saw DT for the first time live in the ADTOE tour a month ago, and I loved James' voice in all songs, and in general he is a great vocalist. But he did fucked up this time. His voice just didn't reach higher tones in this concert, and this tune demands a brutal voice.
