When I was first getting into Dreamcatcher (and they were my first k-pop group), biggest thing that helped me learn who the members are and learn about them was the video series "This is..." by insomnicsy. They're compilation videos that show off members in various categories ranging from vocals to certain looks ("fatal" or wearing glasses) to personality quirks. Each member has four videos now, one for each year from 2020 to 2023 (also note each video is completely different, they're not "updated" versions) and they're only about 7 minutes a piece. It'll go a long way to showing you not only their personalities but also how they interact with each other. The same channel also has a LOT of really well-made fan content (the anniversary videos in particular are really amazing) and compilations, both of the group and other individualized videos.

I just went and subscribed! It would be fun to do a video for each member 😊 I’m totally down for that! Thank you for letting me know, I think the best part of getting into a new group is getting to know each member individually and learning their personalities!

There seems to be a slight distortion on the music tracks (apart from the last one lol). An interesting choice of songs. 'There was No-one Left' is a B side & shows a common theme with Dreamcatcher in that their B sides are all over the place genre-wise. If you don't find one appealing just wait; the next may be more to your taste. That said it is one of my favourites. They also do loads of covers, self-made MV's, and relay dances (watch the background of these). Over lockdown, they got bored & covered a Kdrama! Their Title tracks often have story arcs & can also be multi-layered.

I noticed that when editing 😭 idk what happened cuz I used my AirPods like usual lol There was no one left was really satisfying vocally. I’ve already listened to it a bunch more times 😂 when I say I like other songs more it just means the genre was more my style but I listen to everything! Definitely need to get to relay dances and covers! Ah I love self made mv’s that’s awesome! They seem very creative 🤯

During Scream and a few more songs, they were missing one of their members, Handong. She's their Chinese member, she went back to China to compete on a show and got stuck there for a long while because of covid. Scream is the first song in the Dystopia trilogy, followed by Boca and ending with Odd eye. The trilogy talks about online bullying and the dangers of internet society. Maison is the first in the Apocalypse trilogy, followed by Vision and ending with Bon voyage. This trilogy is about saving the planet.

That’s really frustrating 😭 freaking covid. I can’t even imagine being stuck that long. I definitely wanna watch the trilogies in order to make more sense of things! Because I think the messages are so important

Fun thing about Dami is that she is technically their weakest vocalist given that she specializes in rap and dance but can actually sing really well. She likes production and song writing and said her dream collab was producing a song with Siyeon (who can complete a song from scratch really fast) and while these two were working on the Shadow project (a 2 part ost for the horror series Dark Hole) Siyeon actually helped Dami with her vocals after which Dami started singing a lot more in title tracks. Also Dami hits the highest note in Shadow (slow version). Siyeon (shi-yeon) used to be the front woman of a rock band in her school days. She is one of the top performers in kpop and is called the wolf for her expressions and intensity. She will always extend her highnotes and sing higher and louder to drown out the backing track when live. Also she is just a baby. Currently she has really short red hair which basically gave the entire fandom horrible brain rot for like a week which she is also keeping for their Europe tour which is both a blessing and curse for those who bias her lol. I highly recommend checking out their songs Ootd and shatter and their dance videos. Also for the most delicious Dami meal check out propose and rising live performances.

They’re all really good dancers and vocalists! I have a thing for unique vocal tones and Dami just really stood out to me 😂 but they’re all great singers! Yoohyeon vocals stood out as well! Siyeon was in a rock band?!?! 🫠 I can see it lol I love that they’re both into production and song writing as well! Definitely writing down your recs! Thank you 😊

So excited that you're getting into Dreamcatcher! The blonde in 'And There Was No One Left' is Siyeon and she's the main vocal and the short haired girl is Dami who is actually the main rapper. Dreamcatcher are amazing performers, I've seen them live and they're incredible. They also have my favorite relay dances if you're ever interested in reacting to some of those. I love Bonvoyage a lot, I was so sad that it came out right after I saw them live. You were right, blue hair is Siyeon, short hair starting off the song was Yoohyeon and gray hair is Dami. If you're asking about who you said stood out to you in the Scream dance video it was Dami, Jiu (purple hair) and Siyeon (low ponytail) but Sua is the main dancer. Sua, Jiu and Yoohyeon do a dance cover of Taki Taki that's lethal. For the It's Live you were 100% correct in identifying the members. Hope we get more Dreamcatcher in the future!

Thanks for commenting Nora! 🥰 I can imagine how fire they are live! I’ll get to live performances and relay dances for sure 😊 I’ll have to pay more attention to sua in the future! 🔥

I'm actually surprise that you almost picked out SuA as main dancer when Dreamcatcher is all so good at dancing and synchronization. I mean they know how to let the other shine. No one can outshine the one in the center, you know what I mean😂 SuA always leads a dance break or difficult parts in Dreamcatcher choreo. Their choreo is super duper tiring and difficult to match the "craziness" in their titles. You can notice SuA in the center during Scream's last chorus (one of the most difficult choreo DC has ever done) or BonVoyage's intro
@ToniReacts8 ай бұрын
I’m usually so good at picking out the main dancer 😂 but it’s hard with Dreamcatcher because exactly of what you said! They know how to let the other members shine when they’re center! Like every time a member was center I just had to watch them 😂 Their choreo does look super difficult. I would love to watch more live performances!

The members and their positions in order of age: JiU - leader, lead vocal, lead dancer. SuA - main dancer (and sometimes choreographer), lead rapper and sub vocals. Siyeon - main vocals. Handong - sub vocals (the Chinese member that was missing for a while) Yoohyeon - lead vocals. Dami - main rapper, lead dancer and sub vocals. Gahyeon - rapper, sub vocals and Maknae. Those are the official positions but they don't really say much anymore, they can all do it all.

You're right. After the nightmare series, they've had social commentary or other important commentary in every series. "Scream" and "Boca" (along with "Odd Eye") are indeed about bullying/cyberbullying/hate comments. "Bon Voyage" was the last part of a trilogy called Apocalypse, which was about the environment. "OOTD", the most recent comeback, was the first part of what appears to be commentary on beauty standards, influencer culture & how fake things are on the world.

Great reaction! I sense the born of a new baby InSomnia here... Welcome to the dreamworld Quiet interesting song list you had chosen here... It's not a secret that all Dreamcatcher's title tracks are always infused with rock/metal genre that mix with various genres, just like *Scream* that mix with EDM, and *Bon Voyage* that included some funky in there... As you had said that you know *Boca* already, it is mix with a mombahtoon, and etc While their B-sides are containing a lot of genres, not just rock/metal, they have reggae, jazz, EDM, city pop, funk, trap, and so on... We have witness that already with *And There Was No One Left* *Don't Light My Fire* is a sample for their typical Japanese tracks, that mostly in the form of heavier rock/metal songs... For a first time deep dive, your recognition of the ladies is quite excellent, good job for that... Older to younger: *JiU* - Leader, Lead Vocal, Lead Dancer, Visual *SuA* - Main Dancer, Lead Rapper, Vocal *Siyeon* - Main Vocal *Handong* - Vocal *Yoohyeon* - Lead Vocal *Dami* - Main Rapper, Lead Dancer, Vocal *Gahyeon* - Lead Rapper, Vocal, Maknae But apparently, Dreamcatcher are consists of 7 Vocalists, 7 Dancers, 7 Visuals... I do enjoy watching your reaction, and of course hoping for another reaction for Dreamcatcher... Stay safe, keep healthy, and have great days

Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 Starting off with a b-side is an interesting choice. Dreamcatcher's b-sides are well worth a listen to, they are all high-quality. Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt and a burning at the stake. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme. I really enjoy the music, it's rock mixed with EDM. Dreamcatcher are always very creative, and they are in their own genre by this point. "Bon Voyage" is the 3rd and final part of the Apocalypse trilogy, which is about the destruction of the environment by humanity. The members have mentioned that it is about giving nature a break. Any encounter between human beings always has separation attached to it as well, just as death is a part of life. SuA also said that the fluffy floating thing that Dami summons from her painting is a cell, representing nature. It has been named "Celly" and is adorable, right? My dark mind believes that they are saying "Have a good trip" to humanity, since we are well on our way of wiping ourselves out. It's like a breakup between humanity and the earth. Once humanity is gone, nature gets the break it needs and the circle will begin again. For me, the key to understanding the lyrics is that they are singing as human beings, not as a single person. And they are singing to nature, confessing their love and the realization that we are not good for nature and that it probably resents us. It could also be the other way round (them singing as mother nature to humanity). SuA jumping out after the dove seem to represent their desire for peace. The story of the MV seems to be that the rest of humanity has sheltered away under force fields after the apocalypse. This gives nature time to heal. Musically I can already say this is one of their best songs for me. The chorus slaps hard, and the variations between heavy and slow are just beautiful. It has emotion and impact at the same time. Putting JiU's sweet voice together with an acoustic guitar is simply genius.

Ooooohhhhh your low down on the symbolism and meaning in the MV’s is so interesting! Really enjoyed reading your comment 😊 I have to pay more attention for sure. I tend to focus on the lyrics and miss things in the MV. Ugh I already love their messages. Cyberbullying is so rampant and awful. It frustrates me that people can hide behind a pfp and saw awful things to others that they don’t even know. But then again they really must be miserable themselves to take the time to do that. And the nature point as well, we really are quickly destroying the earth in which we live. And then on top of that the sounds/genres they combine just sound so good and then throw in their amazing vocals and dancing. They’re really talented and I’m glad I’m finally getting into them! I love their vibes a lot 🥰

Thanks for checking out Dreamcatcher! You've already gotten some great info from others about the members, so I wanted to give you some additional info on the songs and some recommendations. I also wanted to confirm your feelings about the depth of their songs. All of DC's title tracks convey a deeper meaning, though it's not always apparent on first listen/watch. And There Was No One Left is a B-side from The End of Nightmare EP. This is the last Korean EP in their Nightmare series, and the title track is Piri. Scream was the first DC MV that I ever saw, and I was immediately hooked. The rock/EDM instrumentals, their vocals, and the aesthetic were a perfect marriage of things I love. This song is the Title Track of their first full album, Dystopia: The Tree of Language. Boca is the follow up to this song, followed by Odd Eye. Don't Light My Fire is a Japanese B-side from the Eclipse EP. Instrumentally, this song takes a lot of inspiration from Nordic metal & symphonic metal. The title track for this ep is Eclipse and it's an anime opening for the Kings Raid: Successors of the Will anime. Bonvoyage is the 3rd and final part of the Apocalypse Trilogy from the EP, Apocalypse: From Us. While the song can be interpreted as a love song, in the context of the trilogy it's about humanity's connection to Earth and how we need to go away so that it can heal. The previous two songs for the Apocalypse trilogy are Maison, which you're familiar with and Vision. All Title tracks are going to have rock influences, but they're going to sound pretty different with each comeback. They're constantly pulling from different rock sub-genres for each comeback and combing those influences with other genres. The Nightmare series has a more traditional rock sound while their Japanese title tracks tend to be heavier rock/metal. One of Dreamcatcher's strengths is their genre diversity. While rock and metal influences make up their core sound for title tracks, their b-sides span dozens of gernes & sub-genres, including EDM, Rock, Trap, Trance, Jazz, R&B, Funk, Reggae, and much more. Since your said that rock is one of your favorite genres, I wanted to give you a handful of songs you can check out. Mayday - b-side from the Escape the Era EP Break the Wall - B-side from the Dystopia: Lose Myself EP. There's a fantastic live showcase version of this that's floating around YT. I believe it's available on Andrew Lee's YT channel. Tension - B-side from the Dystopia: The Tree of Language album. Demian - B-side from the Apocalypse: From Us EP. This has progressive and math rock influences. Rising - B-side from their most recent release Versus: Villains. There is a live showcase version of this, but I'd recommend doing the studio version first as the live audio recording isn't the best. Siyeon and a few of the other members blow out the speakers in a few places, lol.

This is so in depth and so fun to read! I can definitely see I have barely scratched the surface when it comes to dreamcatcher 😂 I need to backtrack and get to the songs that are in the series so I can better understand the messages. I definitely knew Maison had an important message without even reading the translation but Bonvoyage was not as clear so I definitely need to pay more attention 😂 I appreciate all of the recs! I will definitely be adding them to my playlist to get to in the future 😊 punk rock/rock is my favorite genre but I literally listen to everything 😂 I actually love when groups experiment with different sounds and mixing different genres!

Never understand some boy group stans aversion to girl groups tbh.. If you don't like some because of the high pitched/whiney voices thats fine. But there are so many girl groups that have members with non-whiney voices.. Even plenty of idols with legit deep voices too. And then there's the "but their dances are too easy" crowd.. AKA people that clearly don't know dancing lol. Ngl sometimes it just feels like a poor excuse rooted in internalized misogyny
@ToniReacts9 ай бұрын
I don’t have an aversion to gg. I just haven’t found gg’s I vibe with yet and haven’t done a deep dive, which is why I did a reaction to Dreamcatcher to start that journey. I listen to a lot of twice, black pink, red velvet etc I just don’t know them very well. I like Hanabie and BABYMETAL too, it’s just the “fake voice” that gets to me. As an ex dancer, I don’t think gg choreo is necessarily easier because they do a lot of hand movements which can be difficult to remember. But energy-wise I’m not sure if it’s the same level as bg. I say that because bg choreo tends to be a bit more wider movements which just takes more energy. But again I don’t watch gg choreo as often so I could be wrong on that 🤷🏼♀️ but I liked dreamcatchers choreo a lot and want to check out their dance practices. Internalized misogyny is definitely an important topic though. 🫡
